About the opportunity

We are seeking a Principal Solana Smart Contract Engineer to lead the development of a new Solana-based product from the ground up. This role is critical to the success of the product, where you will be responsible for architecting, developing, and securing smart contracts, ensuring seamless integration with backend and data engineering teams, and optimizing performance for large-scale B2B2C distribution.

We're looking for someone who can take ownership of smart contract development from inception to operation, working closely with product and engineering teams to shape the vision, bring it to life, and ultimately maintain, optimize, and integrate it into Figment’s other products. You’ll be responsible for setting technical direction and driving best practices for Solana development.

This is a full-time remote position, with team members across North America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. This role is unique because you’ll be at the forefront of building a new product that expands the blockchain ecosystem. If you enjoy tackling complex blockchain challenges, architecting secure smart contract systems, and leading initiatives in a fast-paced environment, this role may be a great fit for you. Ideal candidates are deeply experienced in Solana ecosystem development, highly proficient in Rust, and capable of mentoring engineers in your area of expertise while influencing cross-functional stakeholders.

How you will make an impact

• Lead the design and architecture of Solana smart contracts, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security.
• Collaborate with Product to refine specifications and drive feasibility discussions.
• Ensure security and audit readiness, implementing best practices to mitigate vulnerabilities.
• Optimize smart contract performance, reducing compute unit costs and enhancing execution speed.
• Work closely with backend and data engineering teams to integrate blockchain data into a full-stack solution.
• Drive technical strategy, establishing best practices for Solana development.
• Mentor and support other engineers in smart contract development, raising the technical bar and fostering a culture of best practices.

What you bring to the team

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with deep expertise in Rust and Solana smart contracts.
• Proven ability to design and deploy production-grade Solana programs.
• Experience influencing architectural decisions across multiple teams.
• Strong understanding of security best practices, audits, and risk mitigation for smart contracts.
• Experience working with backend and data engineering teams to deliver comprehensive blockchain solutions.
• Track record of leading zero-to-one blockchain product development.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a product-driven mindset.

Even Better If You Have

• Experience contributing to Solana open-source projects or protocol-level development.
• Prior experience with large-scale blockchain infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience improving blockchain developer tooling.
• Knowledge of other blockchain networks beyond Solana, especially Ethereum

Compensation

One of Figment’s core principles is “Making the Invisible Visible” - ensuring transparency and information sharing in all communication. Figment is committed to transparency regarding pay, benefits, and other compensation types for all internal roles as well as all roles being hired for.

Base Salary: The CAD base salary range for this position is CAD $200,000 - $230,000. This range reflects base salary only, and does not include additional compensation or benefits. For candidates in other countries, the pay range will be disclosed upon your first interview with Figment (being a globally remote company, the list of salary ranges would simply be too long to note here!). The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum range for a new hire across all Canada or the US. A candidate’s specific pay within the range will be determined by various factors including job-related skills, relevant education, and training.
