Job Summary
• The primary role of this role is to ensure product meets the necessary regulatory requirements and said requirements are clearly communicated to project teams. The role will be predominantly responsible for determining test requirements, ensuring these are correctly documented in communications with project teams, working with ODM turnkey suppliers on ensuring timely delivery of test reports and certifications and on occasion helping with the organization of test samples and planning/commissioning lab time. Travel may be necessary to external test laboratories in the Taiwan area from time to time and less frequently internationally. Emphasis will then be on ensuring project deliverables meet the necessary standards and document repositories are populated. Some follow up with regulatory authorities to obtain necessary certifications directly may be necessary from time to time, or in countries not within the original project scope.
• Other key aspects of the role are ensuring products are sustained throughout their lifecycle by using good engineering judgment in the Engineering Change Order process, and providing guidance and advice on solving compliance issues. This is a proactive role, the compliance engineer will play an active part in the early development stages of ODM to ensure that compliance is designed into the product right from the start, and supporting the process that underpins this activity.
• A secondary role of this function is to provide administrative support to the team creating purchase orders, dealing with invoice enquiries, housekeeping of databases, electrical filing of technical documentation, dealing with travel requests and other ad-hoc tasks as required from time to time.
Responsibilities
• Act as the interface between product development teams and regulatory authorities world-wide.
• Identify the appropriate regulatory requirements for a variety of products, mainly communication headsets, keyboard, mice, and ancillary equipment, wired and wireless.
• Manage the process of regulatory testing, providing product data and instructions to external test laboratories, obtaining quotations, scheduling testing, preparing samples for test, brief the lab on how to set up and operate the EUT as appropriate, overseeing the testing to ensure completion on time and within budget.
• Acting in a consultative capacity in the event of a non-compliance, communicating with engineering teams and external suppliers world-wide.
• Maintaining good working relationship with external test laboratories
• Be a source of technical expertise on global standard and legislation, in particular maintaining familiarity with US/Canada and EU regulatory requirements
• Preparing test evidence into technical files and drafting registration documents, self-declarations and filing documents as necessary
• Familiar with EMC/Safety/RF (Bluetooth) standards, EN/IEC/UL/ETSI/ISO etc.
• Collaborating with ODM/NPI teams to answer ad-hoc questions on a variety of compliance related issues.
• Preparing internal documentation to facilitate and share best practice
• Handling annual compliance registration renewals as applicable.
• Determine product test requirements from initial product concept stage, develop verification test plan, identify budgetary sizing and sample requirements, determine likely testing timescales
• Ensure all external test activities are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the test plan.
• Working with ODM/NPI teams to provide guidance and advice on all aspects of design for compliance.
• On occasion, inspect PCB layouts, schematic diagrams, instructions for use, BOM documents and product markings to identify areas of concern with respect to pre-compliance, communicate these back to the ODM/NPI teams.
• Review Engineering Change Orders from a compliance perspective
• Create purchase orders, respond to any relevant invoice and general enquiries.
• Perform housekeeping activities on in-house proprietary database repositories and project management tools
• Ensure compliance documentation is correctly e-filed
• Organizing travel
Education & Experience Recommended
• Minimum – 3 years in Compliance related work, with clear competencies in RF/EMC and Safety engineering.
• International/type approvals experience in the area of telecommunication or radio products.
• Demonstrated ability to self-manage and initiate tasks as needed. Organizing, tracking & communicating.
• Methodical approach with an eye for detail
• Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.
• knowledge of FCC Part 15 rules and regulations, including permissive changes criteria and processes.
• Knowledge of applicable EU directives (RED, EMC, LVD)
• Strong communication skills
• Able to work autonomously on own initiative without constant supervision as part of a global team
• Excellent standard of English (both written & verbal)
Preferred Certifications
• Experience of the principles RF/EMC design
• Experience of Bluetooth SIG qualification
• Ability to operate and interpret results from applicable EMC/RF test equipment
• Experience of maintaining global databases
• Familiar with non-regulatory equipment certifications, eg Avaya/Cisco
• Good project management skills
• Experience of DECT a distinct advantage
• Proficiency working in a Windows environment with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Access and Outlook
