Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) is currently seeking Quality Engineer (Associate or Mid-Level) to support operations in New Orleans, LA.

The successful candidate will support Space Launch Systems (SLS) programs, which operate in a lean environment and thrives on collaborative teaming and flexibility to support the high-volume, high-mix production operation.   The agility and dynamic pace within Space Launch Systems allows opportunity for an individual's professional development and growth across a program life-cycle, spanning across a wide domestic and international customer market base.  

This position will be partnering directly with NASA and working with the supplier base. This position will support process improvements, non-conformance (NCR) and root cause processes (RCCA) for site supplier quality teams. Successful candidates will have past experience working in a quality environment and have background working directly with suppliers and/or supply chain processes. This position will be working with a dynamic team and require strong problem-solving skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders. The employee will be required to have proficiency in applying job principles, techniques, standards, and theories and must have the ability to work under general supervision with guidance provided for special assignments.

Position Responsibilities:

Level 2:

  • Researches contractual and Boeing Quality Management System requirements for applicability to specific proposals and program processes and documentation.
  • Develops sections of quality metrics, design and production certification plans to ensure compliance with contractual, Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyzes capability assessments to support supplier selection activities.
  • Participates in various reviews to ensure quality attributes are incorporated into product designs.
  • Performs data analysis to ensure manufacturing and test readiness.
  • Provides material review dispositions for non-conformances.
  • Analyzes non-conformance trends to evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Compiles performance reports and other statistical data to ensure specified processes capability levels are achieved.
  • Works under general supervision.

Level 3:

  • Represents Quality function on team activities to integrate contractual and Boeing Quality Management System requirements into all aspects of proposals and program processes and documentation.
  • Provides Quality interpretation of requirements.
  • Develops quality metrics, design and production certification plans for small programs to ensure compliance with contractual, Company and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts capability assessments and process validations to support supplier selection activities.
  • Participates in various reviews to ensure quality attributes are incorporated into product designs.
  • Performs analysis, tests and process audits to ensure manufacturing an
  • d test readiness. Provides material review dispositions for non-conformances. Analyzes non-conformance trends to evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions. Recommends corrective actions to address non-conformances.
  • Performs benchmarking and other forms of analysis to ensure specified processes capability levels are achieved.
  • Works under general direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in New Orleans.

This is a NASA safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

This position requires the ability to obtain access to a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) facility

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship, post start.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelors of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree
  • More than 1 year of experience in Quality Management Systems (QMS)
  • Experience developing root cause corrective actions
  • More than 1 year of experience working in Quality, Supplier Quality or Supplier Management
  • Experience reading engineering blueprints/drawings
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • Level 3: 3 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Previous aerospace industry experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Knowledge of working with AS9100 and/or similar QMS standard


Typical Education and Experience:

Level 2:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 3:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for associate level (Level 2): USD 73,100 – 98,900
Summary pay range for mid-level (Level 3): USD 88,400 – 119,600
