Job Summary:

To perform advanced accounting functions such as ledger/fund maintenance, payroll, fund reconciliation, posting, and inventory control. To interpret fiscal policies, analyze complex financial data, and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field and one (1) year related experience or completion of a post-baccalaureate accounting certificate program and one (1) year related experience. Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of standard accounting principles, concepts, and procedures. Skill in the use of personal computers and related financial and/or accounting software applications. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports. Ability to set up and maintain financial accounts and ledgers.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes accounts, records, reports, accounts receivable and payable, journal vouchers, general and subsidiary ledgers, and other accounting documents for accuracy and completeness; investigates and resolves questionable entries.
  • Monitors departmental or unit revenue and expenses accounts; ensures expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements, university policy, and standard accounting procedures.
  • Prepares recurring reports such as monthly financial statements, leave, and personnel activity reports; processes vouchers and purchase orders.
  • Prepares, reviews, and processes budget, revenue, expense, payroll, and related correcting entries; reconciles financial statements and fixed assets.
  • Analyzes and forecasts revenue and expenditure trends.
  • Interprets fiscal policies; interacts and trains departmental staff regarding finance policies and procedures and funding requirements; liaises with vendors, funding source representatives, and patients.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Requires exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, constant sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
