Mechanical Planner (Contract Role), Calgary

Reporting to the Project Controls Lead, Facilities Projects, the Mechanical Planner position will be an energetic self-starter, performing various duties within the Facilities Project team, in the planning capacity. This role allows you to be creative while building cross-functional relationships and contributing to MEG Energy’s Construction Execution plan by effectively planning work, applying previous experiences and expertise developed as a Mechanical Planner.

*Please note, this role is a 12-month contract position with opportunity for renewal and compensation as a straight hourly rate*

Your day-to-day:          

  • Plan construction work packages using various system such as Orbit, Maximo, CAT, LEM including development of standardized job plans, sequencing tasks and follow up information relevant to the work
  • Ensure all supporting documentation is completed for the construction work packages and materials including EWPs, ECNs, DCNs, and MOC’s. issue RFIs ahead of construction to ensure complete clarity in the IWP package.
  • Review EWPs for completeness and build CWPs(IWP) for issuing to contractors. IWPs must include everything the contract needs to perform the work.
  • Prepare site progress sheets using our inhouse developed CAT progress system.
  • Ensure LEM system is setup and ready for the contractor to charge time too.
  • Setup and maintain the turnover system Orbit for the contractors
  • Ensure materials are available for all assets to ensure readiness prior to the execution of planned activities This could include sourcing materials, obtaining quotes, technical advice and documentation required to complete the work packages
  • Maintain a skyline and work plan to ensure IWPs are issued timely and when work load is too large priorities are set with CMT and PMT.
  • Assist the SCM group and Construction Management to initiate and review vendor contracts and agreements prior to work starting if required.
  • Interface with Operations and Drilling, regarding work such as current and upcoming projects, turnarounds, and scheduling future regulatory work.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement initiatives set forth by the Organization, including CMMS, job plans, materials management and inventory rationalization
  • Take part in the scheduling process and work with the schedulers when requested

What you will bring to MEG:

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Piping\Mechanical trades, with a minimum of 5 years in a planning role for an Industrial site is required
  • A Red Seal Pipefitter Journeyman Certification required
  • CET designation is considered an asset for a Technologist
  • Knowledge of System Turnover and General Turnover Practices.
  • Familiar with Turnover Software such as Orbit or MCPlus.
  • Additional experience in scheduling and manpower loading
  • Strong knowledge of Maximo or experience using a CMMS system is strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, networking, negotiation and diplomacy skills is required
  • Excellent analytical, project/time management and organizational skills is required
  • Strong facilitation skills effective at achieving alignment among multi-disciplined work groups at all organizational levels is required
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are required
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and manage competing priorities, effectively in a changing environment and within defined timelines is critical
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work both with a team or independently
  • Ability to travel to site from time to time, when required
