09The Role: Senior Specialist, Financial Analysis
The Senior Specialist role will play a key role in supporting the monthly close and estimate process by aggregating required actual data, preparing, and distributing reports, updating corporate forecasts, and assisting FP&A Manager and Analyst with daily accounting, budgeting & forecasting and operational support.
The Impact: This position will work alongside the FP&A Manager and Analyst to ensure all monthly financial reporting and analysis is delivered timely and accurately to facilitate decision making by management.
The Career Opportunity: The role offers the opportunity to gain a view of the Corporate Functions with responsibilities focusing on financial reporting and analysis. There is an ability for advancement within the Finance team and the broader S&P Global Finance organization.
The Team: The Corporate FP&A team consists of employees in London, New York, New Jersey, Denver, Pennsylvania, and Manila. The Team interacts with the Corporate Department Executives and is responsible for the end-to-end financial processes and support.
Responsibilities:
Monthly Close
Run reports and review monthly expense activity (Ariba, OTBI, Oracle, etc.).
Assist with monthly accounting close and financial reporting process, including P&L reporting and expense spend analysis.
Prepare journal entries and applicable balance sheet reconciliations.
Analyze historical data for trends and unusual variances; comparing results to estimate, budget and prior year.
Research and document expense transactions as requested.
Prepare analysis for ad hoc requests and special projects and provide direct support to the Managers and Analyst on an as-needed basis.
Accounting & Operational Support
Assist Manager and Analyst with vendor research.
Assist with account coding inquiries.
Assist the business with invoice or procurement questions, and/or connecting these team members to a BSC resource for resolution.
Assist in preparing Ariba requisition.
Annual Budget & Monthly Estimate Process
Update and maintain current supporting schedules for non-compensation spend for each assigned function.
Update non-compensation forecast assumptions in Anaplan FP&A model.
Build reports to research and validate forecast assumptions.
Other Accountabilities
Develop knowledge and understanding of the business and financial system tools that are critical to the reporting process.
Give suggestions and implement process improvements.
Alert management to accounting or operational problems and suggest actionable solutions.
Provide thorough and accurate responses to management and business leads inquires.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
2+ years’ work experience in public/private accounting or finance department.
Knowledge of US GAAP or other similar accounting principles is preferred.
Ability to work independently and as a fully contributing member of a team. The preferred shift will be a split shift that overlaps with US-based team members (mid-shift).
Demonstrate the investigative research and analytical capabilities necessary to provide the leadership team with the accurate and insightful interpretation of financial information.
Possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to develop and implement innovative solutions for operational and financial problems.
Strong attention to detail and analytical ability with an inquisitive mind.
Large data manipulation experience.
Strong skills in MS Excel (Pivot tables, V-Lookups, IF functions, etc.) and PowerPoint.
Fluency with Oracle Financials or other similar financial systems, Anaplan and Oracle Smart View strongly preferred.
Experience with Power BI or other analytical tools preferred.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
