Job Summary

The Assistant Director of Employee Experience listens, collaborates, builds, and executes employee-focused programs that strengthen the employee experience throughout the College. This position is responsible for defining, designing, and executing the College’s Employee Experience strategy and leading a portfolio of employee-focused programs across the College that drive organizational transformation.

Employee Experience Departmental Leadership

  • Responsible for leading efforts to capture actionable insights and data from employee feedback and sentiment surveys; uses data to inform key decisions for prioritizing College-wide Employee Engagement efforts.  Works with Marketing & Communications to create communication strategies to strengthen the accessibility of timely and relevant information shared directly with employees of the College.
  • Leverages the voice of the employee to enable feedback loops for continuous improvement of communication, enabling a more personalized and meaningful employee experience.  Ensures that all Employee Engagement strategies and messaging aligns with the College’s employer brand and value proposition, as well as the College’s Strategic Plan, Vision, and priorities.  
  • Assists with efforts to define and evolve HR’s support for the Employee Lifecycle, including but not limited to refining the process for employee-centered design workshops in support of continuous improvement efforts; providing resources for frontline managers and supervisors; and the ongoing measurement and reporting of the effectiveness of the Employee Experience within the Employee Lifecycle.  Conducts employee surveys, benchmarking surveys, engagement surveys, sentiment surveys, and pulse surveys, as well as roundtables to understand employee sentiment.  
  • Makes recommendations on ways to improve Belonging, employee satisfaction, connection, and well-being to division leaders based on collected data.  Develops and implements strategies for tracking and reporting on Employee Experience metrics.
  • Partners closely with the Organizational Development Team to create a collaborative and engaging Onboarding Experience for new employees and hiring managers; works with Instructional Design Team to create effective and engaging visual tools including Sways, SharePoint sites, and other collateral.  Works with the Organizational Development Team and Human Resource Business Partners to collaborate on Employee Engagement “best practices” for managers and frontline supervisors including training, resources, and materials. 
  • Partners with the Employee & Labor Relations team to identify and disrupt management and employee barriers to success; assesses root cause and collaborates with key stakeholders to design and implement training, resources, and outlets that drive improvements to the Employee Experience.
  • Works closely with the Wellness Committee to create and launch programs and initiatives focused on physical, mental, and social wellness related to Employee Experience & Engagement. 

Talent Acquisition Department Leadership

  • In collaboration with the Director, Employee Experience & HR Ops, develops and implements processes to ensure the team operates in an efficient manner while ensuring accuracy, strong client service and relationships, and alignment to wider HR goals and objectives. 
  • Analyzes data and develops reports and dashboards to identify growth opportunities, areas of improvement, and business trends within existing systems and structures.  Reports analysis and recommendations to Senior Leadership.  
  • Works cross-departmentally with teams such as IT, Academic Affairs, and Business services to support Talent Acquisition initiatives.

Operational Leadership

  • Supervises assigned area of responsibility and staff by recruiting, hiring, assigning, and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth opportunities.  
  • Conducts annual employee evaluations, provides ongoing feedback and coaching, and effectively recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate.  Administers disciplinary actions upon approval and in collaboration with Director and Human Resources. Interprets, explains, carries out and enforces the College's policies. 

Employee Recognition

  • Partners with various stakeholders to create, launch, and promote employee perk and recognition programs that further Employee Engagement. 
  • Oversees the day-to-day functionality of employee recognition programs including Staff Employee of the Month/Year, Services Awards, Cougar Paws, Distinguished Teaching Awards, Distinguished Full Professor Awards, and Quality Team Awards.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as a brand ambassador, representing and championing the College’s mission, vision, values and strategic plan in virtual and in-person events.
  • Ensures College name and image is perceived positively by external as well as internal audience/stakeholders.
  • Leads a team of internal program staff, setting performance expectations and monitoring to enable their professional development and overall success. As appropriate, manages relationships with vendors and maintains their accountability to deliver in the best interest of the College. 
  • Partners with Marketing & Communications to keep employees and Leadership updated on feedback, accomplishments, and milestones.
  • Manages and encourages volunteer opportunities in with the College to increase CSCC’s impact in the communities in which we operate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or closely related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible human resources leadership experience including leading employee engagement strategy and employee recognition programs in a large organization.
  • *An equivalent combination of education and experience may qualify a candidate.
