Delivering safe and effective maintenance and engineering services across Anglian Water, we are Maintenance and Engineering Services the newly formed team with the clear objective to provide a professional, collaborative and cost-effective service to our colleagues across the business and supporting them in delivery of our business plan objectives 

Our services include: electrical statutory compliance providing a planned electrical maintenance and advice service, statutory compliance services for areas such as lifting equipment and pressure vessels, estate management such as legionella, grounds maintenance and air conditioning, providing project engineering delivery and having an in house engineering workshop service means we not only deliver fabrication, repair and service exchange service we also support and encourage the continuing professional development of in house learning of key engineering skills.  

We are currently looking for a Maintenance & Engineering Services (MES) Commercial Manager to join the team on a permanent basis. 

What will you be doing? 

Commercial Process Management: 

  • Oversee daily commercial processes and procedures, providing direction and instruction where necessary. 

  • Ensure efficient management of all commercial activities, aligning them with company objectives and industry best practices. 

Financial Clarity and Contract Management: 

  • Ensure all parties clearly understand the financial aspects and impacts of contracts. 

  • Conduct final account reviews and audits, aiming to achieve the best possible financial outcomes for MES. 

  • Validate sensitive commercial information to maintain accuracy and compliance. 

Cost Management and Value Maximisation: 

  • Maximize value and minimize costs by implementing and maintaining appropriate controls to monitor and manage the operating cost base. 

  • Work closely with operational teams to deliver on and manage performance against commercial targets. 

Performance Management and Continuous Improvement: 

  • Promote a culture of integration, continuous improvement, and the use of best practices across commercial services. 

  • Develop, manage, and maintain performance dashboards, reports, and registers across MES to track and enhance performance. 

Strategic Negotiation and Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Negotiate with key strategic supply chain partners to secure favourable terms and ensure alignment with MES objectives. 

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and finance teams to define, monitor, and administer delivery route overheads (OHs). 

Contract Assurance and Compliance: 

  • Ensure contracts within delivery teams comply with all legal obligations and delivery strategies within commercial services. 

  • Develop and implement a strategy for bespoke assurance activities where required, ensuring thorough contract compliance. 

Risk Management and Mitigation: 

  • Develop and manage the risk register, facilitating regular reviews and the development of risk mitigation measures in coordination with stakeholders. 

  • Identify areas of non-compliance, creating clear action plans to quickly address and improve these areas. 

Efficiency and Cost Savings Reporting: 

  • Manage and report on MES efficiency and cost-saving initiatives, ensuring alignment with targets set by the MES Senior Leadership Team (SLT). 

  • Continuously monitor and optimize performance against set targets, ensuring cost-efficiency across operations.

Skills and experience required 

  • Educated to degree level in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying or equivalent 

  • MRICS qualified highly desirable 

  • Preferably a chartered or working towards chartered status. 

  • Experience in NEC Forms of Contract 

  • Significant customer facing experience. 

  • An experienced manager of people and teams, developing others, and managing staff welfare. 

  • Experience, or a strong understanding of construction, procurement, and commissioning. 

  • Proven record in delivering commercial projects to program, budget, and quality requirements, and managing competing tensions. 

  • Evidence of on-going leadership development and relevant personal development (Required) 

  • Experience similar role at a strategic or senior level 

  • Working across complex matrix teams 

  • Success at creating an aligned culture focussed on high performance 

  • Adept in use of standard forms of contract and developing commercial strategies
