GEICO is seeking a Workday & HR Systems Staff Engineer to join our People Technology organization. In this role, you will help build high performing, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications used by our People Team and associates’ company wide. You will help drive our transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission. 

Position Responsibilities

As a Staff Engineer, you will: 

  • Lead projects involving major people technology and HR systems built to support GEICO’s needs and strategy. 

  • Design, develop, and ensure the maintenance of scalable and reliable software solutions

  • Contribute to architectural decisions and provide insights into system improvements

  • Translate HR People Team business needs into technical requirements and actionable software solutions 

  • Understand and implement secure design practices 

  • Foster effective collaboration and communication across cross-functional teams to align priorities, share best practices, and ensure smooth coordination for incident response, system maintenance, and upgrades 

  • Support the creation of the enterprise level technology roadmap for the Geico People Team and business demands

 

Candidate Qualifications and Skills 

  • Strong knowledge of HR systems (experience with Workday integrations and complex reporting is a big plus), methodologies, and principles, as well as fluency with at least one modern language such as Python, Java, Go 

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for driving operational efficiency and automation.

  • Strong application testing discipline 

  • Experience developing and deploying applications in AWS or similar public cloud environment. 

  • Experience with learning and performance management systems

  • Experience with recruiting and talent acquisition technology

  • Understanding of the security and compliance needs of the business and how they apply to HR Systems, including protection of PII and user access 

  • Strong problem-solving ability 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with enterprise-level documentation authoring and design

 

Experience 

  • 4+ years of engineering experience with HR/People systems such as Workday. 

  • 3+ years of experience with architecture and design 

  • 3+ years of experience with any scripting and API integration 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary

$90,000.00 - $230,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
