Job Description: 

Responsible for overseeing and implementing ethical practices and principles in the development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies within an organization. They play a crucial role in ensuring that AI systems are designed and used in a responsible, fair, and transparent manner.

The key responsibilities of a Data & AI Ethics, Privacy SME typically include:

  • AI ethics strategy: Implementing an AI ethics strategy and framework that aligns with the organization's values and regulatory requirements. Defining ethical guidelines and principles for AI development, deployment, and use.
  • Ethical AI governance: Establishing governance structures and processes to ensure adherence to ethical standards and policies throughout the AI lifecycle. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate ethical considerations into AI development and decision-making processes.
  • Risk assessment and mitigation: Identifying potential ethical risks and biases associated with AI systems. Conducting risk assessments and implementing mitigation strategies to address issues related to fairness, transparency, privacy, and accountability.
  • AI Governance Framework: Develop the AI Governance framework, including performing assessments, documenting the approach, and building a rollout plan.
  • Ethical AI guidelines and policies: Communicating guidelines, policies, and best practices for the responsible use of AI technologies. Ensuring that employees and stakeholders are aware of and adhere to these guidelines.
  • Anonymization & De-identification: Design and implement effective anonymization techniques to protect sensitive data while maintaining its utility for analysis and reporting.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Collaborating with internal stakeholders, including legal, compliance, privacy, and business teams, to understand their concerns and perspectives on AI ethics. Engaging in dialogue and fostering partnerships to promote ethical AI practices.
  • Ethical AI training and awareness: Conducting training workshops to educate employees and stakeholders on AI ethics, responsible AI practices, and potential ethical challenges associated with AI technologies.
  • Ethical AI audits and assessments: Conducting regular audits and assessments of AI systems to evaluate their compliance with ethical standards and identify areas for improvement. Recommending and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • External partnerships and industry engagement: Engaging with external organizations, industry groups, and regulatory bodies to stay updated on emerging ethical AI practices and contribute to the development of industry-wide standards and guidelines.

A Data & AI Ethics, Privacy SME plays a critical role in ensuring that AI technologies are developed and used in an ethical and responsible manner. They help build trust in AI systems, mitigate ethical risks, and promote transparency and fairness in AI decision-making processes.

Skills:

  • Subject matter expert in required skill set with ability to apply concepts.
  • Able to plan & organize complex deliverables that provide options for an organization to make decisions against. Demonstrate ability to apply Data and AI Ethics and Privacy to systems & applications.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude to effectively engage and influence stakeholders

Education: A university degree is preferred
