Summary:
Act as the ongoing interface between the client and the system or application. Responsible for end-to-end administration of Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) and Sybase/SAP ASE databases across on-premises and AWS cloud environments. Supports hybrid database operations, performance engineering, migrations, and cross-platform integration projects with a focus on reliability, security, and operational excellence.

Job Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
Administer Microsoft SQL Server (2012, 2014, 2016, 2019, 2022) instances across on-premises and AWS RDS environments
Administer Sybase ASE / SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise databases in hybrid on-prem and cloud-connected configurations
Manage AWS RDS for SQL Server including Multi-AZ deployments, snapshots, parameter groups, and option groups
Maintain SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and Sybase Replication Server for HA/DR
Perform routine database administration: backup/restore, index maintenance, statistics updates, and integrity checks
Manage database patching, service pack upgrades, and cumulative updates across MSSQL and Sybase environments
Perform capacity planning, storage management, and cost optimization across all platforms
Implement and maintain database security policies, role-based access control, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and audit configurations
Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to support deployments, changes, and incidents in a hybrid environment
Maintain DBA runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation for all managed platforms

Backup: Networker, AWS Backup
Monitoring: SQL Server Agent Alerts, CloudWatch Alarms, SSMS Activity Monitor, Splunk
Automation: PowerShell (dbatools module), AWS CLI, Bash scripting
ITSM: ServiceNow
Security: TDE, SQL Server Audit, Sybase login policies, Qualys
SLA / KPI Ownership:
Ensure adherence to SLA/KPI commitments across MSSQL, Sybase, and AWS RDS environments including patching
Track MTTR (Mean Time to Resolve) and MTTA (Mean Time to Acknowledge) for all database incidents
Client Facing Responsibilities:
Participate in war room calls and bridge lines during major database incidents
Handle escalation matrix and maintain clear communication with business and technical stakeholders
Provide timely status updates during incidents, maintenance windows, and change events
Participate in governance, service review, and capacity planning meetings
Coordinate with AWS support, SAP/Sybase support, and Microsoft Premier Support for critical issue resolution
Technical Experience:
3 to 5 years of total experience in database administration with a focus on MSSQL and Sybase/SAP ASE
Hands-on experience managing SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2019/2022 in production environments, both on-premises and on AWS RDS
Working knowledge of Sybase ASE including administration, performance tuning, replication, and troubleshooting
Knowledge on AWS RDS for SQL Server including deployment, patching, Multi-AZ, and snapshot management
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent MSSQL certification preferred AWS Database Specialty a plus
Professional Attributes:
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills in a client-facing environment
Ability to handle critical database incidents and coordinate escalations under pressure
Flexible to work in a hybrid on-call or 24/7 rotation model as required
Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset with attention to production stability
Willingness to cross-train across MSSQL and Sybase platforms and adapt to evolving cloud tooling
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline. Relevant industry certifications in Microsoft SQL Server, SAP Sybase ASE, or AWS Database technologies are strongly preferred.
