Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking an experienced Aircraft Structures Mechanic 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Whiteman AFB, Missouri. 

The selected candidate will perform a variety of operations such as locating parts, drilling various types of metals, installing brackets and structural components using a variety of fasteners and adhesives based on engineering drawings and process specifications. Your existing skills will be enhanced with specific aircraft structures coursework, on the job training, and certifications to perform work on the B-2 Bomber. Additional duties such as installing aircraft engines, electrical wiring, coaxial cables and low observables may be required.

Your duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Translate blueprints into fabrications of structural assemblies to include precision drilling, countersinking, and the use of calibrated tools

  • Aligning parts on jigs using templates and fixtures

  • Performs minor part-fitting operations: filing, sawing, burring, crimping, trimming, framing, riveting, drilling and reaming

  • Measures parts with precision tools such as, micrometers and calipers to verify dimensions

  • May modify incomplete and complete assemblies to incorporate changes to structure

  • Use of appropriate PPE when working on the shop floor

  • Performs maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, re-assembly, or adjustment of various aircraft systems in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, and FAA regulations.

  • Interprets and uses various test equipment and works from wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, job guides, and maintenance manuals.

  • Must obtain and maintain qualifications as directed by supervisor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Degree or Diploma or equivalent and 4 additional education and/or related experience in manufacturing/production experience (or similar)

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.

  • Must be willing to work either first or second shift, overtime, holidays, and weekends

  • Able to meet the physical demands of this position, including regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive movements, work overhead, use hands to grasp, handle, and/or feel, reach. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and twist

  • The ability to pass Special Medical/Respiratory Exam

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DOD Secret Clearance with an investigation date/periodic review within the last 6 years

  • Completion of A&P certificate program or associate's degree in an applicable field

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to work with others at all levels of the organization.

  • Previous composite, manufacturing, or production experience 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Willingness to meet customer needs

  • Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence

Salary Range: $47,300.00 - $78,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
