Job Description:

Location: Houston, TX

The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator works in a fast-paced, creative environment in a valuable support role working under Meow Wolf’s Director of Exhibition & Facilities. The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator verifies incoming shipments and mail while  keeping detailed records on incoming and outgoing shipments as well as prepares items for shipment by performing the duties listed below to quality and productivity standards. This role will interface with many stakeholders and will help organize and prioritize shipping needs. The Shipping & Receiving Coordinator will also coordinate with outside vendors and their representatives to ensure reliable transportation and shipments of the company’s assets. Prior experience in packing or shipping and receiving required. 

How you will do it

  • Assist in the receiving and inventory process of project assets to support the Houston site.

  • Cataloging information, data entry, and impeccable organization.

  • Maintain and organize  all storage facilities and receiving areas with an organized knowledge of where assets are located and stored.

  • Track, unpack, examine, and store incoming shipments.

  • Receive and track inventory using the Meow Wolf inventory system.

  • Work with site staff to coordinate and implement regular (daily, et.al), time-sensitive, product-sensitive, and immediate delivery of merchandise, product, or other items requiring transport to any location.

  • Work with various teams to find creative solutions to problems as they arise.

  • Track project timelines to prepare and organize for upcoming needs regarding its logistics, packing, shipping and storage.

  • Collaborate with Retail Managers on Loss Prevention measures.

  • Model and ensure compliance with all safety and security protocols.

  • Provide inventory data to support asset management within the Maintenance and Inspection database.

  • Operates lift trucks or hand trucks to convey, move or hoist materials to proper areas. Utilizes tools and materials such as a steel bander and stretch wrap safely and efficiently.

  • Unpacks, examines and routes incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with appropriate departments to rectify damages and shortages.

  • Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies. Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times.

  • Since completed projects vary greatly in size, shape, and materiality, creative thinking is necessary when fabricating custom packing like crates, pallets, boxes, bins and shelving for storage and transportation.

  • Will also be tasked to provide shipping support company wide as needed.

To be successful in this role

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Warehouse Coordinator, Manager, Distribution Center Lead or similar role

  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving practices, inventory management, shop tools, and safety procedures.

  • Hold a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record - willing to submit to a driving record check at the time of offer

  • Forklift and other heavy equipment operating experience and current certifications.

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Ability to prioritize and be adaptable to changing needs and tasks

  • Ability to handle sensitive tasks accurately and confidently

  • Google Suite, Microsoft Office proficient

  • Hold a valid driver’s license, clean driving record

It would be nice to have

  • Prior work experience in a retail, museum, theme park, or warehouse.

  • Experience in asset management and tracking systems software or in App development for asset tracking.

  • Experience fabricating or handling art.

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office and strong knowledge of Excel.

  • Experience working in a creative organization.

  • Experience in Airtable

  • Experience fabricating or handling art or other high value materials

  • Experience with national carriers using ground, freight, LTL transportation services

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

Work Environment:

This position works in a facility where loud noises, such as welding, metal grinding, hammering, sound effects, and woodworking are present. Work area is adjacent to project testing for various light and sound effects and sound testing.

Physical Demands:

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. The employee needs to be able to see in order to operate tools and other machinery.

The employee will comply with company and OSHA standard workplace safety protocols. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Schedules are based on business needs.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not require supervisory responsibility.

Travel:

This position is based in Houston, TX but may be required to travel for transportation of assets from shop to storage or installation locations related to job.
