Job Summary: Functions under the direction of the Department Manager and Clinical Coordinator. The Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse is responsible for implementing the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. The nurse is responsible for providing patient care that is age appropriate, and addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and educational needs of the patient and family/support system. The Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem, urgent, emergent and life saving situations. In addition, this nurse coordinates surgical suite activities, prioritizes and directs surgical team in emergent situations with ease. She participates and coordinates staff development and professional self-development. This nurse is a role model and team leader who assists others in performing their responsibilities of patient care and organization support and is self-directed. Functions in a full time position as a circulator or surgical tech during peak surgery hours. Weekday, weekend and holiday call required. Some charge nurse responsibilities may be required. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Coordinates delivery of perioperative patient care 5% Maintains a high level of patient safety. 5% Collaborates with health care team members in planning patient care. 5% Maintains CPR certification. 5% Assumes responsibility for other duties as assigned. 5% Provides age appropriate patient care. 5% Promotes team spirit and positive work environment. 5% Provides supportive environment for students and staff. 5% Serves as professional role model. 5% Liaison between physicians, patients, families, and staff. 5% Supports fiscal accountability (cost containment) for human and material resources. 5% Supports performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. 5% Documents patient care legibly, accurately and in accordance with site/department guidelines. 5% Promotes shared governance and evidence based practice. 5% Functions independently within a broad range of surgical specialties. 10% Maintains 12 contact hours per year. 5% Manages assigned surgical specialty for flow and cost containment. 5% Strives to make the WellStar Standards of Gold part of daily work activity. 5% Peer evaluation may be required. 5% Required Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school of nursing Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Provisional
  • Pediatric Adv Life Support-Preferred or PALS - Instructor-Preferred or PALS - Provisional-Preferred
Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 1 year At least a year of Cardiovascular OR experience, to include CVOR Residents Preferred Healthcare Experience Preferred or Sufficient experience in a cardiovascular specialty to function in the team leader role and to serve as a resource to peers Preferred and Demonstrates excellent skills in circulating role Preferred and Dual role of srub and circulating Preferred Required Minimum Skills: A thorough knowledge of new trends and techniques in Cardiovascular surgery. Ability to multi-task using critical thinking skills anticipates surgeon’s as well as surgical teams needs. Capable of prioritizing appropriate patient care in emergency situations. Current CPR certification and participates in annual safety and infection control programs. Emergency call coverage is required for weekdays, weekends and holidays. Attendance and punctuality must be commendable. Must be able to effectively communicate and understand verbal and written English language. Must be able to communicate effectively in a clear, courteous, professional and tactful manner especially in stressful situations. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills. Basic keyboarding skills required. Flexible in hours and work shifts due to need of continued patient care. Must be available for call on weekdays, weekends and holidays.
