Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Observation

Known for their excellent assessment skills, South Pointe Hospital’s Observation Unit provides care to and observes patients requiring expedited evaluation to determine the appropriate inpatient/outpatient intervention. You’ll experience endless learning opportunities caring for diverse populations of adult patients in a fast-paced environment with a high patient turnover rate. 


A caregiver in this position works 7:00am – 7:30pm. 


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Collect, document and report patient data and observations.  

  • Implement care plans as directed by an RN and contribute to care plan revisions.  

  • Administer medications and/or treatments authorized by a provider and observe patients for adverse reactions.    

  • Perform routine laboratory tests. 

  • Educate patients and family members.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate of an accredited practical or vocational nursing program.  

  • Current Ohio license as a Licensed Practical Nurse.   

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • One year of patient care experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination.
  • Involves extensive standing and walking.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
