Job Description:
The Talent Development team aims to deliver leading edge, inclusive and holistic learning solutions to enhance employee experiences, strengthen our talent pipeline and enable Sun Life to be one of the top asset management and insurance companies in the world.
As Director, Talent Development you lead the effective incubation, development and execution of innovative learning solutions which enhance the capability of Sun Life employees and build BOLDER behaviours. Reporting to the AVP, Growth and Development in Talent Management and in partnership with HR Business Partners, Business Leaders and other key stake holders, you explore various learning technologies, modalities and tools to design and deliver solutions that enhance employee performance and career confidence and drive Sun Life’s strategic priorities forward with speed and agility.
What will you do:
- Design, manage, and/or implement innovative global learning solutions, informed by industry best practices, adult learning principles, digital technology, and innovative learning strategies.
- Aligning our development approach to support our Manager Effectiveness strategy.
- Leverage data analytics, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies to personalize and optimize talent development initiatives
- Initiate learning solutions and modalities that align to our expectations of a skills-based organization, enabling employee performance and career confidence.
- Partner with internal SMEs and external vendors to design and deliver on offerings aligned with company strategy and that foster an Empowered and Inclusive culture.
- Lead the change management required to enable a more integrated approach to employee development than traditional training; integrated with a more holistic view of employee skills, performance, and career experience.
- Implement talent solutions that advance our cultural aspirations as well as enterprise and core capabilities.
- Maintain a current understanding of trends, systems, technologies and practices for leading edge learning experiences, drawing from sources inside and outside of Sun Life Financial or finance industry.
- Own the Learning Experience Platform (LXP) and learning technology roadmap, and effectively leverage the capabilities to enhance learning experience and generate insights on learning analytics.
- Lead talent development-related policies, corporate governance, risk, and metrics & reporting through programs such as Education Assistance, BrightTrack, and Sustainability reporting.
- Develop and empower a team of Talent Development professionals to deliver on the global training needs of Sun Life employees.

Key Relationships and Stakeholders
- The TD team has several partners and stakeholders in the build and deployment of programming, including Talent Management, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Talent Partners and L&D leaders across the enterprise
Experience required
- 7+ years of talent development experience, demonstrating expertise in needs assessment, instructional design and development, facilitation and learning measurement of competency or skills-based leadership and employee development programs
- 3+ years of experience leading a high performing team
- Experience/familiarity with using artificial intelligence in the build and implementation of a learning strategy
- Program ownership of large-scale training initiatives that span multiple global markets and diverse learner groups
- Experience with emerging learning technologies to support an engaging learning experience for a hybrid workforce
- Proven vendor relationship management experience, spanning sourcing, contracting and contextualizing solutions to the business context
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging digital and innovative experiences that reinforce learning
- Experience synthesizing objective data and subjective feedback to create insights and recommendations
- Strong relationship management and consulting skills
- Proven ability to work and lead in a virtual/hybrid environment
- As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.
The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
