About the Role: 

We're looking for a Merchant Underwriter, that will ensure merchant applications meet verification and program guidelines. We are looking for detailed-oriented individuals with a high level of integrity. In this position, you would spend your day reviewing financial and identifying documents, assisting merchants over the phone, gathering additional documents, and following up with applicants to verify financial information to decide the loan application. This is a dynamic role partnering with our merchants to provide a best-in-class experience. 

  

What You’ll Do: 

  • Verify merchant application information, coordinate the collection of missing data and documentation, analyze and underwrites new merchant applications, and re-evaluate existing merchant accounts as requested by the other internal departments. 
  • Adhere specifically to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations, and laws. 
  • Follow regulatory requirements including those pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP), and OFAC to assist in the identification, detection and determent of money laundering or other unlawful activities. 
  • Read and interpret personal and commercial credit reports, tax returns, and/or corporate financial statements. 
  • Contribute to regular staff meetings to discuss merchant accounts, trends, losses, etc. 
  • Present ideas to management for continuous improvement of procedures and efficiencies. 
  • Bring a flexible mindset – you will be required to adapt to changing policy and procedures on a constant basis while maintaining high-quality work. 

  

What We Look For: 

  • 6+ months of small business underwriting experience or 6+ months Merchant Specialist experience required 
  • 1+ years experience in a payments, financial services or related industry 
  • Previous underwriting experience  
  • Ability to calculate financial information and strong problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Team player mentality with a high level of integrity 
  • Ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment  
  • Detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets, Tableau  
  • Not currently on a corrective action 
  • No unexcused absences in the last 6 months strongly preferred 
  • Must have a 6 month scorecard average of 4.25+  

Nice to Have: 

  • Knowledge of Zendesk or other CRM applications is a plus.
