Join Mizuho as the Head of Platform Engineering!

The Head of Platform Engineering is responsible for building and operating the core engineering enablement platforms that allow application teams to deliver software safely, reliably, and at scale. Reporting to the CTO, this role owns the tooling, platforms, and standards that underpin software delivery, operational resilience, and developer productivity across the firm.

This role does not own enterprise data platforms or analytics tooling (e.g., data lakes, data warehouses, data pipelines), which are managed by the Data Services organization. Instead, the Head of Platform Engineering partners closely with Data Services to ensure clear interfaces, seamless integration, and a cohesive developer experience across the engineering ecosystem.

The role is product‑oriented, execution‑focused, and accountable for delivering standardized, self‑service platforms that reduce friction, improve reliability, and enable consistent engineering practices across the technology estate.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the enterprise platform engineering strategy, aligned with CTO priorities and firm‑wide technology objectives
  • Establish platform engineering as a product discipline, with clear service definitions, roadmaps, and adoption metrics
  • Drive standardization and reusability while supporting diverse business and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, Production Services, and Data Services leadership

CI/CD Platforms

  • Own the design, delivery, and operation of enterprise CI/CD platforms and standardized pipelines
  • Drive automation, security, and consistency across build, test, and deployment workflows
  • Enable scalable self‑service pipeline capabilities while supporting regulated delivery models
  • Reduce CI/CD tool sprawl and enforce best practices across development teams

Observability & Reliability Platforms

  • Own enterprise observability platforms, including logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting
  • Define reliability standards and enable practices such as SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets
  • Improve availability, performance, and incident response through platform‑led capabilities
  • Partner with Production Services and reliability teams to drive proactive resilience

Middleware & Shared Services Platforms

  • Own non‑data shared services and middleware platforms, such as:
    • Messaging and event platforms
    • API management and service integration
    • Service‑to‑service communication frameworks
  • Establish consistent integration patterns and operational standards
  • Ensure platform scalability, resilience, and security in line with enterprise requirements

Qualifications

  • Senior leadership experience in platform engineering, infrastructure platforms, or large-scale developer enablement
  • Deep hands-on understanding of:
    • CI/CD platforms and pipeline architectures
    • Observability and operational tooling
    • Middleware, integration, or shared services platforms
    • Developer experience and productivity tooling
  • Proven experience operating in large, complex enterprise environments (financial services strongly preferred)
  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements: reliability, security, scalability, and compliance
  • Ability to balance standardization with flexibility across diverse engineering teams
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills

The expected base salary ranges from $300k-$350k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
