Job Summary

The Performance Engineer is responsible for the assessment, evaluation, and analysis of process performance, utilization, effectiveness, and efficiency for the purpose of improving, streamlining, and managing operational processes and performance. The Performance Engineer helps promote and spread a culture of continuous improvement that engages front-line caregivers and providers as well as leaders in decisions, encourages them to identify problems and solutions, and brings standards and processes to the act of managing day-to-day work. The Performance Engineer serves a triple role-providing expertise in assessment and analysis of work processes and performance, being a trainer and an advisor to others to allow use of LEAN and PE practices at the frontline level and being able to support larger and more complex process and performance evaluations and recommendations for change. As a trainer, the individual leads formal and informal training sessions of varying sizes, instructing employees on the use of LEAN tools and methodologies, as well as other problem solving techniques. As a consultant and advisor, the individual supports and guides project sponsors and operational owners in assessing, understanding, evaluating, and executing on business process engineering, redesign, and management in the execution of process improvement and project management efforts for the healthcare system and affiliates. This support includes providing experience and expertise in distilling complex problems down to root causes and ensuring rigor and consistency in problem solving methodology and tool usage. Using quantitative data, qualitative data, and observational data/process measurement, the Engineer supports Process Improvement project and operational teams in capturing current state information, testing new designs in order to design highly efficient, effective processes, workflows, and system designs to achieve exceptional service, quality, and efficiency. This position ensures existing processes maintain a high level of performance while continuously reviewing and refining those processes to assure sustainable development.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Leads performance improvement projects and acts as primary performance improvement resource. Uses LEAN methodologies and tools to achieve project goals and outcomes. Trains and mentors subordinate employees as needed.
  • Supports management in the development and implementation of more efficient, cost-effective business processes and strategies throughout the organization. Monitors operations performance and works to improve the availability and validity of information used in analysis and decision making. Industrial engineering background, knowledge or skills required. Process Improvement Specialist often supports this position. Provide appropriate consultation reports and process documentation to support identification and resolution of opportunities for improvement.
  • Performs effective, comprehensive workflow assessments, gap analysis, and other evaluations to identify deficiencies in business and clinical processes and programs, recommending improvements. Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective and sustainable assessment/recommendation/evaluation process for assigned processes and programs.
  • Provide detailed analysis and identification of opportunities for improvement in productivity including but not limited to staffing models, roles, optimization of scope/scheduling, and adaptive resource management processes as well as process efficiencies. Perform root cause analysis and failure modes and effects analysis to identify causes/potential causes of failure and strategies to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide well researched, well written analytical assessments and reports. Integrate regulatory, accreditation, policy and other standards into assessments tools and methodologies to provide integrated performance assessments and recommendations.

Additional Requirements

Required:
Education - Bachelors degree in Related Field

Preferred:
Certification - Lean Six Sigma - International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC)

Physical Requirements:
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
