Role:

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides quality nursing care via nursing process, patient and family education, and documentation.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

The RN is responsible for supervising LPNs, CNAs, Unit Secretaries, and Volunteers.

Experience Requirements 

The RN must have at least one year of staff nurse experience in a comparable setting/unit. Hospice and/or palliative care experience is strongly preferred. 

Education Requirements:

The RN must have at least a Diploma or Associates degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing  program.

Required Certificates and/or Licenses:

The RN must have licensure from the governing body for practice for the District of Columbia, State of Maryland, and/or the Commonwealth of Virginia, based on the state/jurisdiction of practice; or licensure from compact state. Healthcare Provider BLS (CPR) is required to practice in State of Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Quality Provision of Services:    

  • Provides quality nursing care to patients by initiating and maintaining the nursing process.
  • Provides patient and family education to maintain quality care, to decrease patient and family anxiety.
  • Documents in appropriate chart and forms in an accurate and timely manner to provide a written record of assessments, plan of care and to assure the availability of information to team members.
  • Keeps knowledge base and skill levels current to assure quality patient care and professional growth.
  • Responsible for the order, receipt, storage and maintaining adequate pharmaceuticals inventory and stock materials necessary in the CPPC. Ensure all supplies are ordered through approved Capital Caring Health Vendors eg. Medline.

Organizational/Regulatory Compliance:

  • Provides procedural support to applicable staff as needed; maintains a sterile environment as appropriate.
  • Assures that all procedural instrumentation is cleaned or disposed of as per policy.
  • Participates in the Compliance and Performance Improvement program to maintain or improve the quality of patient care.

People/Communications:

  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement a patient directed individualized plan of care and to assure the availability of information to team members.
  • Provides direction and supervision to LPNs, CNAs, Unit Secretaries, and Volunteers to maintain quality care and to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Trains, assists, and evaluates staff in department as appropriate to maintain the effective functioning.
  • Ensures that there is an initial consult on all new scheduled patients and a subsequent visit is deemed necessary.
  • Participates in patient follow up, particularly after procedures have been performed or significant changes in medical management have been initiated.

Compensation Pay Range:

$55.00 - $55.00
