Job Title: Production Manager: Global Engine Development Operations Team - People Leader

Salary: £45,348+ (Depending on Experience)

Location: Peterborough

About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. The Opportunity

This role sits within our Global Engine Development team (GED) at the Peterborough Engine Facility. GED is instrumental in the development, validation and certification of our new products and in providing support to current products.

The opportunity would suit an established People Leader; the focus of this role is to lead and manage a team of technicians within the GED-UK Operations team to maximise engagement from the team and enable efficient operational value stream execution, executing engine testing.

What You Will Do:

Continue to build a team culture focused on safety, process discipline and continuous improvement.

  • Monitor and improve safety measures

  • Eliminate unsafe processes

  • Support the health and wellbeing of the team

  • Manage the performance of individual team members through regular performance reviews, coaching and feedback

  • Work with the team to execute engine testing in-line with the customer requirements

Develop team competency and support people development and succession planning;

  • Drive team engagement and accountability through clarity of goals

  • Identify training needs and development opportunities for the team and individuals

  • Develop the team through coaching and feedback

Collaborate and communicate with process partners and customers, to continuously improve the value provided;

  • Own, monitor and improve value stream performance

  • Support the team to maximise efficiency in quality, velocity and cost

  • Practice and coach lean thinking and problem solving

  • Initiate, drive and support improvement activities

  • Schedule and prioritise resources to meet flow and customer requirements

  • Identify and enable effective resourcing for the team (tools, equipment)

  • Reviewing impact of decisions on Operations’ budget

What You Have:

Operational Safety: Knowledge of operational safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment and site.
 

Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.

Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and
