About the Role

Disney is seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Sr Manager, AI Development to lead the development of cutting-edge AI platforms within the Enterprise Technology organization. This high-impact leadership role sits at the intersection of architecture, experimentation, and innovation, guiding engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that support next-generation digital experiences.

The role involves close collaboration with product, design, and data teams to deliver strategic AI-driven solutions aligned with business goals. It is ideal for a leader passionate about transformative technology and team development in a fast-paced, creative environment.

The cross functional delivery team that this leader will manage includes: software engineering, systems reliability engineering, machine learning, technical program mgmt, biz intelligence engineering, quality engineering, and data engineering. As such, this candidate must have exceptional technical acumen, strong people leadership skills, strong collaboration, and the ability to set technical design/development direction.

The focus of this delivery team is to own and deliver key capabilities of an AI platform, including but not limited to, developing/integrating AI agents, developing/integrating/executing the delivery of an annotation studio, development of an A/B experimentation console, bug fixes/error handling, platform data analytics, and operational continuity. All the while doing so with appropriate infrastructure and DevOps practices.

This role is also required to liaison with the US based delivery team leadership to ensure the overall AI platform is strategically aligned and delivering seamless outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers focused on designing, debugging, and delivering Disney code for a Disney developed AI platform, this include both UI elements as well as API and mid tier integrations. This leader must be able to set technical direction for the team and make decisions about overall design and architecture.
  • Lead a team of machine learning engineers focused on building AI agent and annotations that increase the content onboarded to the platform and the accuracy of the conversations with the AI chatbot. This leader must have experience in machine learning so as to set technical direction for the team.
  • Oversees and validates designs, development, testing, and implementation of software components, fixes, enhancements, and/or new systems and applications.
  • Codes at the component level as necessary to support or validate the work of the team.
  • Ensure all engineering practices adhere to industry best practices for SDLC, Agile, DevOps
  • Lead architectural design decisions, balancing trade-offs and aligning with business and technical goals.
  • Design and influence scalable, secure, and high-performance architectures for AI platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate architecture into product roadmaps.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, especially in AI and agentic platforms.
  • Provide technical mentorship and conduct code reviews to uphold engineering excellence.
  • Partner with product managers and stakeholders to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and propose innovative solutions.
  • Drive adoption of new technologies and methodologies to enhance platform capabilities.
  • Champion agile practices, including MVP and iterative development approaches.
  • Promote transparency, predictability, and collaboration across engineering teams.
  • Advocate for organization-wide best practices in ideation, delivery, and customer engagement.
  • Model inclusive behaviors and Disney’s cultural attributes.
  • Exercise sound judgment when navigating risks, blockers, or trade-offs.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • 5+ years experience in machine learning
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams and complex  full stack development  implementations.
  • Proven track record in software architecture and system design.
  • Experience with emerging agentic AI platforms.
  • Experience building strategic products/platforms and managing large-scale deployments.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages, especially Go (e.g., Java, Go, Python, JavaScript).
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Hands-on experience with AI and machine learning engineering platforms (e.g., MCP, A2A).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
  • Skilled in SCRUM/Lean Agile frameworks with MVP/iterative delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for technical audiences.
  • Ability to influence, build trust, and resolve concerns across teams.
  • Detail-oriented, self-organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and make effective trade-offs.
  • Passion for Disney’s mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to advanced AI experimentation environments and agentic workflows.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered.
