Strategy Director and Chief of Staff, Carelon Research

Job Description:

Our Strategy Director and Chief of Staff will provide direct professional support to the President of Carelon Research, and will actively lead the comprehensive strategic planning for the Carelon Research team.  This leader will actively engage across multiple lines of business to ensure the execution of key initiatives and projects to meet the team’s business commitments to drive high-value analytics and deliver actionable end-to-end insights for our clients and business partners throughout the healthcare space, including life sciences, government and internal to Elevance Health.  The Director will need to understand all aspects of the business and partner with executive leadership to define strategy and successful criteria for the future.

To be successful, the Director is responsible for translating strategy into defined tactics, programs/projects priorities, and timelines and ensures alignment and attainment of enterprise strategic plans to turn strategy into reality, by working closely with line of business leads and matrixed partners.  The Director will build and leverage relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems, proposing opportunities to improve results based on continuous needs assessment. The Director is responsible for the development implementation and monitoring of line of business planning and project activities.  In addition, the Director is responsible for developing and managing an effective internal communication strategy for the President and for curating a positive work culture for all associates.   This position will work in a hybrid way from any US corporate Elevance Health location.  The internal facing title is Business Strategy Plan Director.

How you will make an impact:

  • Understands all aspects of the business and partners with executive leadership to define future strategy and success criteria.

  • Collaborates purposefully across the organization, including with the other Carelon business units, Elevance Health partners and external clients. Builds and leverages relationships to provide innovative solutions to complex business problems.

  • Translates strategy into defined tactics, programs/projects priorities, and timelines and ensures the enterprise’s strategic plans are aligned and attained.

  • Acts as the personal advisor and sounding board to the President, Carelon Research, and triages work on an ongoing basis.

  • Develops and manages an effective internal communication strategy for the President, in alignment with the broader Carelon communication strategy.  

  • Communicates status, priorities, strategies, and success metrics to various stakeholders, including management, other team members and internal partners throughout the enterprise. 

  • Creates and organizes presentation materials for meetings with all levels of the organization.

  • Proposes opportunities to improve results based on continuous needs assessment.

  • Creates and curates a positive work culture for all associates. 

Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field and a minimum of 10 years of related experience including prior leadership experience and 3-to-5-year strategic planning; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Preferred skills and experiences:

-Experience in a healthcare evidence-generation business in life science, government agency, or academic research segments.

-Experience with C-level communication design and delivery across large, matrix organization.

-Experience as a Chief of Staff to the executive leader and VP team.

-Experience with growth strategy, strategic business planning, and management consulting.
