This position will be a hybrid work arrangement, which translates to 3 days minimum per week in the office.
 

About the role:
 

HarbourVest has identified Germany as a key target market for client growth in the private wealth segment and wants to accelerate its ability to work and partner with the private wealth platforms in the country.

As such, HarbourVest is seeking to hire an experienced and outstanding investor relations professional to build long-lasting relationships with private client platforms and contribute to the growth of our private wealth platform globally. The role will be based in our Frankfurt office.

The position is an important role inside and outside the firm and will also involve working closely with the HarbourVest private wealth team members in London, Zürich and Boston. Given the dynamic nature of the private wealth industry and its significant growth in private markets, the role will require incredibly strong new business development experience and skills.
 

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Is fluent in German and English.
  • Has a professional network of private wealth relationships in Germany.
  • Can build long-lasting relationships with private client platforms and contribute to the growth of our private wealth platform globally. 
  • Can grow our client base in Germany through increased commitments from current clients and the addition of new clients primarily from the private wealth segment.
  • Can deepen local relationships with global private banking platforms where primary (investment) decision makers are based outside Germany.
  • Can coordinate local education & training events, written and online content for fund launches, roadshows, and other external events.
     

What you will do:
 

Business Development:

  • Prepare an origination plan for the German market to build out a network of private wealth distribution partners
  • Engage with every private wealth management firm with more than $5bn of AuM to build awareness of HarbourVest’s credentials and capabilities
  • In so doing, contribute to the build out of brand and market recognition of HarbourVest in Germany.
  • Organise/participate in conferences and other relevant events (either external or internally organized) to continue to build out the brand and market recognition of HarbourVest.
  • Work together with any existing global private banking client relationships covering local representatives.
     

Investor Relations:

  • Develop business plan and execute against the business plan over subsequent periods.
  • Participate in and provide input into the HarbourVest product development process to ensure German client needs are reflected.
  • Strengthen and support relationships with HarbourVest’s existing clients in the territory.
  • Work closely with the dedicated Client Service Associate to provide a best-in-class client service experience to existing clients.
  • Assess and pursue possible cross-sell opportunities for clients in their territory.
     

Other:

  • Work with marketing team to enhance communications to existing and potential investors.
  • Assist in RFP/ RFI processes for German clients.
  • Provide input for marketing projects (presentations, annual meeting, reports, communications, website, etc.).
  • Participate in Frankfurt office activities where appropriate.
  • And other responsibilities as required.

What you bring:

  • Incredibly strong new business development experience and skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of local German legal, regulatory and tax considerations for investors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and client-focused orientation.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (such as SalesForce).
  • Willingness to cold call, with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • A team player with a sense of humor.

Education Preferred:

BS/BA or equivalent / MBA, CFA, CAIA beneficial


Experience:

10+ years’ experience in institutional and/or private client, financial sales, business development and client service, with experience in and detailed understanding of private markets and baseline understanding of product structuring.
