Position Summary

The Mgr, Instr Design & Dev is accountable for leading internal and external resources in the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of engaging and effective learning solutions using a variety of modalities. This role will drive an instructional design strategy that aligns with the organization's learning goals and objectives.

This role will manage team performance and mentor resources, ensuring that the team develops new courses and programs, redesigns existing programs, and creates all relevant learning materials. Solutions will be built across various subject domains, including onboarding, management and leadership skills, and functional knowledge.

Core Responsibilities

Instructional Design & Development

  • Lead the design and development of engaging and effective learning curricula, applying adult learning principles and best practices to recommend innovative design approaches and interactions that effectively support specific performance objectives

  • Develop and implement an instructional design strategy that aligns with organizational goals

  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to define learning objectives, design effective instructional strategies, and use source materials and interviews to capture relevant information for learning solutions across a range of topics

  • Manage the content creation process, ensuring adherence to instructional design principles, and maintaining consistency and quality

  • Write, edit, and manage content development at all stages of the development lifecycle, ensuring quality standards and timelines are met

  • Leverage common online content development tools (e.g., Articulate Rise) as needed to produce interactive, on-demand assets

  • Collaborate with other design resources to guide the production of graphic and video assets that are part of the learning experience

  • Contribute to user testing as well as designing and developing program communications and impact assessment plans

Leadership & Project/Program Management

  • Lead and manage learning design projects from initiation to delivery, applying project management skills and tools, and proactively monitoring and mitigating risk to prevent timeline and scope creep

  • Conduct quality checks, reviewing content for accuracy and adherence to standards, and implementing feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement

  • Manage and mentor other learning team resources, including developing performance goals and metrics and identifying opportunities for skills development

  • Establish departmental objectives and analytical priorities that guide team members

  • Build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, SMEs, internal teams, and external vendors to understand performance needs and gain buy-in for learning initiatives

  • Communicate with stakeholders regarding course design elements, goals, deadlines, and objectives


Required Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in instructional content development in a technology-enabled environment

  • At least 2 years of experience of direct or indirect management of learning/instructional design or development resources

  • Demonstrated experience designing and/or developing a variety of adult learning programs such as digital, classroom, blended, and simulation

  • Knowledge of current adult learning concepts, techniques, frameworks, methodologies, and tools

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including editing, with the ability to synthesize information and translate it into poignant and digestible learning interventions

  • Adept at problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, time management, and prioritization skills

  • Must be highly motivated and organized with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously under time constraints, including leading projects in the absence of a dedicated project manager

  • Must be open-minded and able to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment


Education

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in instructional/learning design, human resources development, educational technology, or a related field

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$66,330.00 - $145,860.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
