About the unit 

 Level 3 trauma center with 15 operating rooms in the Magnet Designated Corewell Health System.  We are a center of excellence for bariatrics and total joints.  Approximately 40% of our cases are comprised of total joints and elective spine cases.  The remaining 60% of cases are comprised of General, Colon/Rectal, Urology, Bariatric, Plastic and ENT surgeries.  Blodgett Surgery is a high-tech environment with 3 Davinci robots, a Mako robot, Mazor and Stealth technology.  The OR is a team environment, as Nurses, Surgical Technologists and Surgery Support Staff work together to care for patients and support surgeons and anesthesia providers throughout the surgical procedure.  The Blodgett OR team also serves as the patient advocate while the patient is under anesthesia.  OR staff must use precise, critical thinking, often within a short time frame, while keeping cost effective quality care and patient safety at the forefront.

Scope of work 

The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. May serve as a Preceptor.

Qualifications

  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent 
  • Successful Completion of an Accredited School of Surgical Technology. Not all schools involve an Associate's degree.
  • Surgical Technologist Experience (Clinical rotations do count as experience) Preferred
  • AHA OR ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 Days of hire Required
