As of October 15, 2024 Loblaw has adopted the following Hybrid working model (a combination of working between the office and remotely). Colleagues will continue working remotely up to 1 day a week, while spending the other 4 days in the office.

Specialty Health Network by Shoppers is looking to hire a Winter Co-op Student (January 8th to April 18th, 2025) within our Business Development department. Reporting directly to the Director of Business Development, you will assist with the creation of strategic healthcare partnerships between SHN and external partners. This role is highly cross-functional and requires collaboration with many internal teams and external partner organizations (primarily pharmaceutical manufacturers).   

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in a career in business strategy, including fields such as management consulting, business development & partnerships, and corporate strategy. It is also a great opportunity to learn about commercial strategy roles in the pharmaceutical, medical device, digital health, and retail pharmacy industries. You will develop foundational skills that are critical for career growth, such as developing presentations for senior leaders, using frameworks to develop business strategy, managing financials and contract terms, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

What You’ll Do:

Learn our business and industry:

  • Meet with internal teams to understand their business objectives, especially the Systems, Data, Clinical, and Program Management teams.
  • Meet with external pharmaceutical partners to learn about their needs.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends by reading relevant news articles and sharing those learnings with our team.
     

Assisting with the business development process:

  • Maintain an up-to-date customer database, leveraging our Salesforce CRM platform.
  • Provide weekly updates to internal stakeholders regarding the status of partnership conversations.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of product pipeline trackers and contributing to the preparation of business development conversations.
  • Prepare PowerPoint and Excel documents that will be used to facilitate partnership conversations.
  • Assisting with project management tasks that are associated with responding to Request for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Quotations (RFQs).
  • Contribute to partnership meetings—this can include presenting, taking notes, and following up on action items.

     

What You’ll Need:

  • Working towards a post-secondary education (ideally 3rd or 4th year undergraduate or post-graduate diploma) in Business, Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A desire to pursue a career in business strategy.
  • An interest in one of the following fields: healthcare, digital health, pharmaceutical, medical device, or business development.
  • Demonstrated openness to learn, receive and provide feedback, and be coached.
  • Strong analytical ability, problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Intermediate understanding of basic business tools, especially Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong work ethic, as demonstrated through academic achievement, extracurriculars, or paid or volunteer work.
  • Communicates with clarity in one-on-one or group situations.
  • Respect for diversity, and able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Able travel to the Specialty Health Network office 4 times per week, located at 1685 Tech Ave., Mississauga, ON L4W 0A7. This is in line with our current Return to Work policy, which is subject to change.
