Job Purpose

The MSL is the field-based scientific expert on their assigned therapy area, disease area, clinical practice and competitor landscape. Through their expertise and external interactions they will develop insights which will assist in the development and execution of innovative Medical Affairs strategies and plans that clearly support GSK development of medicines of value for patients and customers. The Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) exists to provide non-promotional, medical support that helps to ensure the safe and effective use of GSK’s medicines, through effective scientific interactions with external experts, to provide support to clinical development colleagues in site selection and with investigators conducting GSK clinical trials, and to provide scientific support for GSK internal stakeholders.

Education, Experience & Skills

  • Preferably MBBS or BDS with experience.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.

  • Solid grounding in clinical, medical and pharmaceutical science with the ability to rapidly assimilate specific and detailed knowledge in these areas

  • Experience evaluating and effectively communicating evidence-based medicine

  • Strong scientific communication and presentation skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the scientific expert for a particular medicine or group of medicines in a therapy area.

  • Act as the interface between the professional healthcare community and the internal GSK medical team and its affiliates providing value-added insights and feedback from the community designed to improve medical, commercial and drug development planning and service provision.

  • Provide inputs to the Business/Medical Plan in collaboration with the Medical Manager .

  • Fully understand and comply with local codes of practice, guidelines and laws to ensure the strictest requirements are met particularly with respect to delivery of promotional verses non-promotional information.

  • Respond compliantly to unsolicited information requests from healthcare professionals and associated individuals regarding licensed or un-licensed GSK medicines and indications; ensure all medical information responses are factual, fair and balanced, scientifically rigorous and strictly comply with local regulations.

  • Disseminate important safety information to the healthcare profession as directed by the Medical Affairs or Research and Development teams or the Dear Healthcare Provider Letter (DHPL) process.

  • Assist the medical and commercial teams in the identification of external experts within the therapy area.

  • Support GSK study teams with the provision of scientific education and enquiry management from investigators and staff engaged in GSK-supported clinical trials e.g. Investigator-Sponsored Studies (ISS).

  • Provide Product and its respective Therapeutic area training to Commercial team.

  • Interaction with Medical Societies with regards to Gsk products organizing/supporting and Participating .  

  • Participation at/and networking at scientific conventions establishing new contacts and facilitating exchange of information.

  • Reviewing and Approval of content lab jobs raised by Commercial.

  • Deliver Product Presentations where required.
