We are seeking an Export Compliance Specialist to support managing and maintaining Ursa Major’s compliance program and policies as well as function as an Assistant Facility Security Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who thrives in a rapidly growing company.
This role will report to the Compliance Manager / FSO but will interact with all areas of Ursa Major. This includes working closely with leaders across the business to identify needs and ensure effective implementation of compliance initiatives. You will support the Compliance Manager in providing guidance in various areas of compliance, including knowledge of a variety of state and federal laws and regulations impacting Ursa Major’s core business. A successful candidate will also face unfamiliar areas of compliance confidently, learning on-the-go and leading the rest of the team through ambiguities.
Responsibilities
- Support the Compliance Manager in providing timely, pragmatic, and high-quality compliance advice across the entire company, serving as an internal resource to Ursa Major team members
- Serve as the primary support for Export Compliance processes including drafting EAR/ITAR export licenses and TAAs and performing due diligence.
- Assist the Compliance Manager in partnering with the Digital Operations and other teams to comply with various frameworks and industry standards relevant to cybersecurity risk mitigation, including NIST 800-171 and CMMC 2.0
- Assist in updating 50+ written policies and procedures to maintain compliance with United States trade, export laws and national security laws including the International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and 32 CFR Part 117 National Industrial Security Operating Manual (NISPOM)
- Assist in Compliance and Facility Clearance team trainings
- Partner with Manufacturing and Quality teams to enhance quality management systems and facilitate overall regulatory compliance (experience with AS9100 and ISO9001 is a plus)
- Utilize knowledge of regulatory requirements (ITAR, EAR, OFAC, RoHS, REACH/SVHC, Dodd-Frank/RMI, DFARS, FAA, NIST 800, CMMC 2.0, OSHA, EPA) to complete regulatory requests and tasks
- Assist, support, perform internal and external audits.
- Participate and assist in leading a cross-functional site security team.
- As part of the site security function, assist in managing the Berthoud visitor process and physical site security.
- Perform administrative tasks, trainings, reporting, assessment and record keeping duties in the role of Assistant Facility Security Officer
- Serve as the one of the main contacts for Berthoud Security contractor.
Requirements
- 2+ years of relevant legal, regulatory, compliance, or business experience, preferably in a highly-regulated industry (aerospace or defense preferred)
- Proficient experience in maintaining a trade compliance program, including Export Jurisdiction and Classification, Commerce and State Department license writing and tracking
- Cross department engagement experience ideally in legal, regulatory, and cybersecurity risks with organizational goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the proven ability to influence and communicate effectively with all levels of the Ursa Major team
- Skilled in detail-oriented work, record keeping and continual improvement i.e. risk assessment
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
Colorado law requires us to tell you the base compensation range of this role, which is $60,000 - $90,000, determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
