Salary Range: SP3, Level 5, $91,200 - $114,000 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

Compliance Auditor, Production - Hybrid

The Opportunity­­

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently recruiting for a Compliance Auditor, Production to join the Regulatory Compliance Branch. This role is part of the Production & Emissions Compliance team, focusing on routine audits, supporting complex compliance assurance activities, and verifying compliance with regulatory requirements.

As a Compliance Auditor, you will conduct audits to ensure compliance with measurement and reporting regulatory requirements. Through the Enhanced Production Audit Program (EPAP) operations, you will identify, compile, and analyze information to enhance the accuracy and completeness of volumetric data reported to PETRINEX and improve industry compliance with AER measurement and reporting standards. This role offers immersion into a multi-disciplinary team and will provide the successful candidate with exposure to varied specialties, including emissions and benzene.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Follow and support all planning and reporting activities in alignment with AER policies, procedures, the Compliance Assurance Program, and the Branch Operational Plan.

  • Work with industry in support of the operation of the EPAP by reviewing annual operator declarations to assess the control environment over measurement and reporting, collaborating with operators in remediating deficient measurement and reporting controls, collaborating with operators to resolve issues arising from the compliance assessment report, managing action items and voluntary self-disclosures.

  • Lead and conduct complex audits on operations within the AER’s jurisdiction which includes analyzing data, preparing audits, analyzing audit responses, and following through with the AER’s compliance assurance framework.

  • Ensure all audit file documentation is compiled and saved appropriately.

  • Respond to and lead others in handling inquiries and stakeholder complaints. Coordinate the technical review of complex complaints with other AER stakeholders.

  • Communicate and consult with industry regarding areas of concern. Lead meetings and deliver technical presentations to industry and government agencies. Participate in synergy groups as required.

  • Contribute to AER initiatives related to operational needs, regulatory, and technical issues as needed.

What we’re looking for in you:

  • A Degree in environment, oil & gas or other related education.

  • 8 years of directly related experience in auditing or related oil & gas experience.

  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements Directive 076, Directive 017, Directive 007, Petrinex is preferred.

  • Ability to use advanced functions in MS Excel and proficiency with SQL queries is considered an asset.

  • Canadian Association of Petroleum Production Accounting (CAPPA) certification is considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with controls-based and substantive audit techniques is considered an asset.

  • Demonstrate strong organization skills by maintaining clear work documentation/tracking and prioritizing work based on risk and value.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
