Summary of the Position:

Tishman Speyer is seeking an experienced Ice Maintenance / Operations Manager for The Rink at Rockefeller Center – the most iconic ice rink in the world. This role’s core responsibilities are to manage the team and daily operations of The Rink all while maintaining the best possible ice surface for our guests. Duties involves routine ice maintenance, primarily by operating an Olympia Mini E Ice Resurfacer, snowblower, Engo edger and other equipment. The Ice Maintenance / Operations Manager will perform and educate other staff on duties such as skate sharpening, solving mechanical issues, and are also tasked and other general responsibilities included in managing the landmark attraction. The successful candidate should bring ice-rink experience, a hospitality mindset, positive attitude, and strong attention to detail to their role. This is a full-time, year-round commitment that will also involve with off-season planning, event operations taking place within the ice rink plaza as well as supporting guest service and operations of other Rockefeller Center departments and businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the operational delivery of all products and programming pertaining to The Rink at Rockefeller Center

  • Manage the ice and facility maintenance, guest experience, and overall safety for both the team and guests

  • Oversee and support venue staffing, scheduling, reporting, cash handling, risk management, and other operational components associated with the execution of The Rink at Rockefeller Center

  • Operate ice resurfacer, edger, snow blower and additional appliances to maintain the best possible ice surface

  • Train staff to operate ice resurfacer, edger, snow blower and additional appliances

  • Quickly respond to and mitigate escalating mechanical and refrigeration issues

  • Make critical decisions around weather, repairs and maintenance to uphold high standards for the ice surface.

  • Advise and coordinate with Engineering team to adjust setpoints of chiller temperature to ensure quality ice-surface despite adverse weather conditions.

  • Coordinate and execute ice maintenance and removal during snow events to mitigate weather impact on ice quality and hours of operation.

  • Manage a team of Ice Technicians and other onsite staff.

  • Operate and education staff on how to sharpen skates (both customer and rental)

  • Keep detailed records including Ice Cut Logs, Skate Sharpening and supply inventory.

  • Support Rock Center’s other venues and operating businesses (Top of the Rock Observation Deck, Rainbow Room, 620 Loft & Garden, Studio, Gather & ZO.) during the summer months. Responsibilities include but are not limited to; supervision of customer service employees, delivering existing branded guest service experiences, working with vendors to execute special events - including set-up and breakdown of venues, partnering with facilities management to ensure Rockefeller Center public areas are properly maintained.

  • Assist with all pre-season activities including labor plan, onboarding and training of all team members

  • Build & maintain relationships with Rock Center customers to holistically support TS’s guiding principles

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least five years of experience in hospitality, entertainment, or event operations management.

  • Minimum of three years’ experience working at an ice rink with ability to operate an ice resurfacing machine and edger, and snow blower. (CIT certification preferred / outdoor ice rink experience a plus)

  • Excellent organization skills, with the ability to manage both customer-facing and internal communication

  • Advanced abilities in all standard Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)

  • Willing and able to work scheduled late/overnight shifts as needed

  • Able to work weekends, early mornings, late nights, and holidays

  • Strong communication and time management skills

  • Ability to understand and communicate in English, verbally and in writing

  • Role may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, stooping, pushing, pulling and carrying

  • A significant portion of the day requires standing and walking

  • A significant portion of the shift will take place outside (Insulated winter jacket & vest provided)

  • Must be able to lift 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis

  • Must be able to follow uniform and other grooming guidelines

  • Must be able to follow all other policies implemented by Swiss Post/Tishman Speyer

  • Exceptional leadership skills. Experience leading seasonal teams is a plus

The base compensation range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000. This role is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, as well as access to our comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan (with matching contributions), wellness benefits and all other benefits afforded to full-time Tishman Speyer employees.

This base range reflects a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skill sets, and/or licensure required of an individual in this particular role. The base range is also specific to members of Tishman Speyer’s New York team, as we’ve considered factors specific to this geography.
