The role:

Within the Business Development Alliance management unit (BD AM), the Alliance Director is responsible for enabling the execution of and delivering value of their alliance portfolio by effectively matrix-managing and influencing key internal and external stakeholders associated with partnered projects; helping the scientific leaders establish clear objectives and accountability for alliances; ensuring that the goals which founded the creation of the collaboration are delivered; establishing mutual trust and transparency with the collaboration partner, through both words and actions; and proactively diagnosing problems, as well as developing solutions that maximize joint value by exploring the underlying interests (needs, goals, constraints) of each party. In addition, the Alliance Director will be responsible for renegotiation of the agreement as needed, including any amendments to address gaps or changing dynamics of the program.

Key responsibilities :

  • Provide insight and direction to collaboration teams, including: governance structure/decision-making, milestone reporting, payment schedules, development project planning, communications/publications, commercial practices, etc.
  • Provide key inputs in new deals during the term sheet phase through contract execution; primary lead in educating and guiding the internal team on contractual provisions and strategic aspects of the partnership
  • Responsible for renegotiation, spin-off, termination, reversion and out-licensing
  • Proactively identify issues/problems/risks and initiate solutions to resolve and/or appropriately escalate unresolved issues for information or intervention
  • Strive for continuous improvement by sharing best practices and lessons learned with BD AM.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals: 

  • BA or BS(c) in a life science or related discipline
  • 5+ years experience in pharmaceutical R&D and/or commercial
  • Experience working on collaborations or deal negotiations
  • Experience leading interdisciplinary matrix teams; proven track record in achieving team goals

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus: 

  • MBA or PhD
  • BD experience is valuable
  • Operational knowledge of all phases of pharmaceutical development and commercialization processes
  • Experience of compliance and/or risk management
  • Influencing skills and negotiation experience
  • Ability to multi-task and assimilate complex information from diverse sources
  • Ability to work independently
