Reporting to the Director, External Reporting, the incumbent will provide support to the Manager, External Reporting in the preparation of Manulife Bank of Canada and Manulife Trust Company financial statements, including notes and regulatory disclosures as it pertains to the Bank. In addition, the incumbent will prepare key strategic presentations for Senior Management, develop reports to meet ongoing needs of the Bank, review accounting pronouncements and perform an impact assessment for Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust. This position offers an opportunity for the incumbent to develop well-rounded financial and banking industry knowledge.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of the annual financial statements of Manulife Bank of Canada and Manulife Trust Company

    • This will include:

      • Develop financial statements shell and complete IFRS disclosure checklists;

      • Prepare year end working papers including lead sheets and analysis as needed to support external audit requirements. This will require the coordination of information from various internal stakeholders and ensuring that the financial statements are accurately prepared.

  • Prepare the quarterly financial performance and regulatory disclosures report for Manulife Bank (i.e. Pillar 3 disclosures);

  • Participation in, and preparation of materials for the Bank’s quarterly IFRS 9 Governance reporting;

  • Review new accounting pronouncements, draft accounting policy memos and complete an impact assessment for Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust;

  • Participation in project working groups, i.e. review accounting policy impact for Manulife Bank and Manulife Trust Company;

  • Preparation and development of dashboards or monthly monitoring for project working groups;

  • Assist in the development of presentations and financial information required by rating agencies;

  • Assist in the preparation of financial results and other strategic presentations to senior management and external auditors, as required;

  • Participate in monthly/quarterly Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) committee meetings, including the Accounting Policy Specialists Group.

  • Research and resolve financial reporting issues; and

  • Special projects, as required

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree (business, economics or finance preferred)

  • 3-5 years of experience within a Financial Services organization

  • Working towards the completion or has completed an Accounting designation

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS accounting

  • Ability to research and interpret accounting pronouncements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build relationships both among internal and industry peers to keep abreast of current issues within the industry

  • Strong teamworking and collaboration skills

  • Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks concurrently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting designation (CPA)

Salary range is expected to be between

$70,350.00 CAD - $117,250.00 CAD
