Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Staff Engineer will have the opportunity to support the infrared technology of the Precision Optics business by creating complex designs, supporting key processes, and supporting engineering work for new programs.

You Will Have the Opportunity to:

  • Supervise and perform the design, development and production of thin film coated optics while continuously improving process, equipment, materials, training and methods of fabrication which will result in manufacturability of designs, higher yields, lower costs and new optical, mechanical performance records

  • Lead and contribute to all aspects of custom thin film manufacturing, including requirement definition, new product development, cost estimation and quoting, optical coating design, mechanical stress analysis, manufacturing instructions, fixture design, test plans, data analysis.

  • Establish and take ownership of process metrics and develop new processes to make products

  • Ensure all necessary process documentation (PPAP, FMEA, control plans) exists and resides in ERP

  • Oversee and validate SPC and process improvement efforts

  • Create engineering designs for IR applications  

  • Specify new equipment needs, oversee, and validate new equipment and process installation, and initiate, track, and validate capital projects

  • Interface regularly with customers to support in process and future slated work, help support customer concerns

  • Design tooling and masking

  • Support inside sales team & commercial teams on quoting process and customer needs

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, bachelor's degree and master's degree in engineering discipline preferred

  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in optical coating

  • Optics and optical systems background

  • Strong mathematical background and experience with SPC

  • Lean Six Sigma or Green or Black Belt Certifications preferred

  • This position is located at the Tyngsboro, MA site but flexibility to work out of Westford, MA locations is required as needed

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
