Job Description:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have previous experience in a medical setting, prefer at least 3 years
  • Prefer experience working with medical insurance

SUMMARY:

The New Patient Representative is primarily responsible for confirming/setting up all new patient appointments and verifying insurance coverage.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Confers with physicians and other staff members to coordinate and schedule new patients by handling dedicated referral line timely.

  • Creates records of new patients in computer timely; mails new patient forms if time permits.

  • Verifies patient’s insurance coverage and pre-certification requirements and enters into computer system.

  • Completes pre-certification requirements prior to the patient’s visit.

  • Retrieves all hospital consults from computer.

  • Obtains and scans records timely and accurately and places copy of records on top of the chart for assigned physician.

  • Compiles and forwards self-pay report to Accounts Receivable Director timely and accurately.

  • Compiles and forwards statistical data on new patients timely.

  • Maintains and distributes adequate supply of new patient brochures.

  • Maintains adequate supply of chart supplies for new patients.

  • Attends staff meetings.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Handles high level of stress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  High School education or equivalent.

Experience:  Prefer three (3) years medical experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of insurance industry.

  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type correspondence.

SKILLS:

  • Skill in using computer programs and applications.

  • Skill in using calculator.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
