Job Summary:
Oversees, designs, administers and provides complex planning and technical support for UMMC network systems and internet interfaces. Supervises, evaluates, and/or provides functional guidance to assigned subordinate personnel or personnel assigned on a temporary or intermittent basis.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Systems Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Prefer Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP), Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP), OR Certified Wireless Networking Expert (CWNE).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of network hardware and software. Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards. Knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques. Computer/network systems planning skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities- Formulates, develops, and implements integrated network architectures. Determines specific network hardware and software requirements such as platforms, interfaces, security systems, or routine schemas. Designs, implements, maintains, configures, and installs LAN/WAN, VOIP, and wireless system hardware, software, and services.
- Oversees and monitors network performance and makes modifications to achieve optimum performance. Oversees the development and administration of switches, routers, firewalls, and security systems. Identifies and implements measures to reduce risks and mitigate potential threats.
- Oversees and performs daily troubleshooting, support, and maintenance of network systems. Identifies root causes of recurring network operating problems and implements solutions or escalates problems to higher level staff as required.
- Analyzes university needs regarding network equipment, services and vendor offerings. Provides planning leadership and direction for future enhancements for the university-wide computer network.
- Develops and implements standards for computer and network systems and procedures to track, project, or report network availability, reliability, capacity, or utilization. Provides technical expertise regarding computer and network services for both local and wide area networks and the worldwide internet; serves as a technical expert regarding computer/network systems and associated issues.
- Serves as a point of contact and liaison with vendors; reviews vendor products and coordinates and facilitates vendor presentations. Maintains network diagrams and documentation.
