Director Tax Accounting and Compliance

Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Global Head of Tax, the Director of Tax Accounting and Compliance position involves leading the quarterly and annual domestic and international tax computation process and the U.S. federal and state tax compliance process. Additionally, the position involves researching and analyzing proposed and enacted domestic tax laws and making planning recommendations to optimize the organization’s tax position.

This position will lead a team of four highly skilled tax professionals while collaborating with international tax leaders to ensure an accurate quarterly and annual tax provision and overall compliance with U.S. tax laws. The Director of Tax Accounting and Compliance will be the in-house technical authority for ASC 740 and United States taxes.

Job Description

  • Manage and lead the annual and quarterly global income tax provision process.  The process involves computing current and deferred taxes, the effective tax rate, taxes payable/refundable, return to provision adjustments, uncertain tax positions, tax account reconciliations, journal entries, and other supporting schedules.
  • Responsible for compliance with U.S. GAAP tax disclosure requirements for SEC Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
  • Manage the tax aspects of the quarterly and annual external audit process.
  • Lead the annual income tax budgeting, forecast and long-range plan process.
  • Responsible for reporting the monthly global cash tax forecast.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX internal audit income tax requirements.  Recommend and assist with the design of new controls when required. 
  • Analyze and interpret U.S. and foreign tax laws and regulations to determine the financial statement and cash impact.
  • Communicate complex tax issues and the related accounting impact to senior management.
  • Collaborate with Financial Reporting, Treasury, Legal, Human Resources, Business Units, and other global functions to ensure tax provision and compliance requirements are met.
  • Lead the design and implementation of tax technology tools and data management solutions to automate and reduce risk in the global tax function.
  • Responsible for managing the Company’s compliance with U.S. federal income tax laws and regulations through leading the timely and accurate preparation of the Company’s consolidated federal tax return and performing/reviewing calculations that support the federal return.
  • Manage the United States federal and state audit defense process including, ensuring appropriate issue analysis and negotiation of audit settlements and continued development of relationship with the IRS and other tax authorities based on trust and transparency.
  • Develop and mentor staff with regular performance evaluations and feedback.  Set annual goals for team and track progress towards those goals.
  • Manage outsourcing arrangements with our external service providers.
  • Identify, develop and implement tax planning opportunities to optimize the global effective tax rate and cash tax obligations.

Required Skills and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • CPA/master’s degree in taxation and/or JD/LLM.
  • Minimum of 12 years of total income tax experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Senior Manager or Tax Director at a large advisory firm.
  • ASC 740 expertise with significant experience leading the tax provision process for the multinational organizations.
  • Considerable experience leading the consolidated federal and state income tax return preparation and review process for multinational organizations.
  • Experience with tax compliance and provision software including ONESOURCE Tax.
  • Effective leadership skills with the ability to create and maintain a collaborative team culture.
  • Ability to communicate and present complex tax concepts to non-tax leadership and peers.
  • Excellent analytical, planning, and organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks with firm deadlines.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
