In this role, reporting to the Senior Director, Public Affairs, Asia, you would be based in Tokyo with flexibility to travel to our office in Hiroshima. Be a key advisor to senior executive leaders by leading, developing, running, communicating, and implementing Micron Japan’s Government & Public Affairs strategy and plans which are essential for the success of Micron. Analyze trends, assess their impact where applicable implications on the region, while supporting several cross functional teams, but not limited to, manufacturing, operations, research & development, finance & tax teams by strategically guiding our engagements with policy makers, Government partners, and other related key collaborators. You will partner with our leaders in Micron to recommend the business on the impacts of policies, politics, regulations, and geopolitics on semiconductor manufacturing.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Lead key projects, develop and maintain valuable and proactive relationships with key public partners as the representative of Micron Japan, where required, and securing Government support for business growth
  • Drive sustained relationships at the central government and prefecture level and helping to develop brand trust with Government, NGOs, industry association and academia partners and communities
  • Develop a framework for practices in Japan, provide guidance & mentorship to other team members on approach & interaction with relevant Government departments to achieve a long-term collaborative relationship with the Government
  • Monitor political environment and reforms including policy, regulatory and legislations and developing analysis and strategic responses where relevant to Micron and the industry. Where applicable, provide timely updates and proactive advice to team members of resulting impact (if any) on operations.
  • Maintain relationships with strategic partners across industry associations and the Government including relevant Ministries, prefectures, municipalities, and Government agencies in alignment with Micron’s objectives.
  • Coordinate and implement strategies that align with the objectives and goals of Micron Foundation’s work and ESG sustainability efforts.
  • Engaging with METI and other relevant Ministries, etc. to pursue Micron’s visibility, grants and incentive schemes, partnership opportunities, pilot projects relevant to the business and non-financial benefits.
  • Provide strategic directions to relevant partners on R&D grants application and implementation and proactively provide counsel on government incentives and opportunities for public-private partnerships relevant to achieving strategic goals of Public Affairs.

Application Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or proven experience
  • 5 years of relevant experience in Government and/or Government Affairs matters, ideally relating to technology or manufacturing sectors in Japan
  • Track record in partnering with senior Government executives and Government partners with a strong ability to network proactively and with integrity
  • Proficient at integrating business strategy with public policy and collaborate optimally across different partners to achieve business results and goals.
  • Possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills with the ability to work at all levels in Japanese/English
