At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

As part of Cancer Research UK’s Retail & Ecommerce Growth Strategy, we are proud to have four distribution hubs and online marketplaces across the UK. Our aim is to reach an income of £96 million over the 10 years, directly contributing £53 million to Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research. As our trading operations expand, so does our marketplace and eCommerce presence.  Sustainable and preloved fashion is on the rise, with the online resale market due to be worth $36bn by 2024 and bigger than fast fashion by 2029, at $64bn. Therefore, this is a key area for us and a real opportunity to bring in more money towards our mission.

We’re looking for an Online Marketplace Team Leader to join Cancer Research UK’s Online Marketplace team in our first ever 12,000 sq. ft. Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) in Warrington which opened in May 2023. Our Online Marketplace Team sort, identify, value, photograph, and list items for sale on our online marketplace platforms (e.g., eBay, Depop, Vestiaire and ASOS). Check out our Team in Warrington in this video as they show you a typical day in the Online Marketplace Team.

In this role, you will be responsible for motivating, coaching, and guiding a team of Marketplace Assistants (c.10 direct reports). You will oversee the item journey, supporting product selection and the photography of items, making sure listers have enough items day-to-day and ensuring the team meets their objectives.

This is an opportunity to work in your local area for one of the UK’s most trusted brands as part of a collaborative team.  We can offer you a purpose-driven role with 25 days of annual holiday + public holidays, paid sick leave, and career progression opportunities across the whole organisation.

What will I be doing?

  • Overseeing the Marketplace team on a day-to-day basis (including rota creation and management, staff and volunteer development and training and induction).

  • Supporting the team by driving KPIs to achieve the overall Marketplace budget.

  • Providing feedback to the team on performance by carrying out 1-2-1 and focus conversations.

  • Being part of team meetings and events and leading in the manager's absence.

  • Ensuring the quality of the photography and listings are at the required standard and consistent on each marketplace and with other hubs.

  • Supporting all areas of the Online Marketplace operation when required.

  • Supporting with training and materials for the shop and warehouse teams to ensure the right items are being selected for each Marketplace.

  • Overseeing the stock volumes and making sure there is enough stock ready for the listers.

  • Checking all areas are compliant with Health & Safety and housekeeping standards.

What are you looking for?

  • Team management and supervision experience in a Retail, E-commerce, Online Marketplace, or Warehouse/ Depot environment (c. team of 10).

  • Experience working to meet team targets/ KPIs with an ability to motivate teams with excellent time management.

  • Excellent eye for detail with a proven ability to work effectively under pressure whilst maintaining high standards.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficient IT and administrative skills (including Microsoft Packages and databases such as data entry in Excel).

    • Shopigo software would be beneficial but is not essential meaning we welcome applicants without this experience.

  • Good brand awareness with an understanding of current product trends and an interest in either fashion, accessories, antiques, or collectables.

  • Experience with photography, or buying or selling on online marketplaces (e.g., eBay, Depop, Vestiaries, ASOS etc) would be beneficial but is not essential meaning we welcome applicants without this experience.

Our organisation values are designed to guide all that we do.
