What We'll Bring:

At TransUnion Africa, we don’t see compliance as a back-office control function we see it as a strategic business enabler. We are looking for a pragmatic, commercially minded Compliance Director who thrives in complexity, takes ownership, and leads from the front.

This role is for a go getter: someone who spots what matters most to the business, moves decisively, and brings others with them. You will operate confidently in a matrix environment, leveraging relationships, influence and deep regulatory insight to help the business grow responsibly across Africa.

You will lead TransUnion Africa’s Compliance team supporting 9 bureaus in 8 countries, shaping strategy while remaining hands on where it counts.

What You'll Bring:

Experience & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Law, Business, Pre‑Law or a related field.
  • 8+ years’ senior management experience in compliance, risk, or legal roles, ideally within credit bureau or financial services environment.
  • Proven track record of building and executing compliance programmes that work in practice.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, data governance, privacy and enterprise risk management.

The Right Mindset

  • Commercially astute — you understand how businesses operate and tailor compliance accordingly.
  • Proactive and decisive — you don’t wait to be asked, and you take ownership through to resolution.
  • Relationship‑driven — you build trust quickly and influence effectively across levels, functions and geographies.
  • Pragmatic problem‑solver — able to cut through complexity and focus on solutions, not theory.
  • Communication & Leadership
  • Executive‑level communication skills, with the ability to explain complex regulatory issues clearly and confidently.
  • Comfortable engaging with Boards, ExCo, regulators and global stakeholders.
  • High levels of integrity, sound judgement and professional courage.
  • Willingness to travel across Africa as required.

Impact You'll Make:

Strategic & Business Partnership

  • Own and drive the Africa compliance strategy, translating regulatory requirements into practical, business‑aligned solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, helping bridge the gap between compliance, risk and commercial objectives.
  • Proactively identify emerging regulatory and business risks, prioritizing what truly matters and guiding the business through informed decision‑making.
  • Embed compliance by design, ensuring controls enable — rather than obstruct — innovation and growth.

Leadership & Execution

  • Lead, inspire and develop high‑performing Compliance teams across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Build future‑ready capabilities by aligning people, processes and systems to the long‑term roadmap.
  • Take ownership of delivery — driving outcomes, not just frameworks — and ensuring commitments are executed timeously.

Regulatory & Industry Engagement

  • Lead regulatory interactions across Africa, building credible, constructive relationships with regulators and industry bodies.
  • Represent TransUnion in industry forums (including the Credit Bureau Association), influencing regulatory outcomes and industry standards.
  • Lead regulatory impact assessments and partner with the business to ensure clear remediation plans and accountable execution.

Risk, Governance & Incident Leadership

  • Oversee and mature the Africa governance and compliance framework
  • Support the enterprise risk management framework.
  • Lead the Data Issue Response function, coordinating incident and crisis responses with clarity, urgency and confidence.
  • Play a leading role in Africa Risk Management Committee activities, including providing support on reporting and escalation to senior management, the Board and International Risk Committees.

Collaboration & Influence

  • Operate effectively within a global, matrixed organisation, influencing without authority where required.
  • Partner closely with Legal, Privacy, GAA, Data Governance, Technology, Corporate Investigations and Business teams to deliver joined‑up outcomes.
  • Share regional insights and best practices to shape and strengthen the global compliance programme.

This is a hybrid position and involves regular performance of job responsibilities virtually as well as in-person at an assigned TU office location for a minimum of two days a week.
