Sol Systems is seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated energy professional who will support the continued development and execution of utility scale solar and storage projects here at Sol. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of engaging and collaborating with other developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs in navigating through the transmission and generation processes in the markets Sol is actively or will soon be participating in. As part of this role, the individual will have the opportunity and responsibility to build out a team of professionals who can actively engage with the key stakeholders while managing complex technical issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support in the development and implementation of a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy to identify, prioritize, and engage with key stakeholders relevant to the company's business objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of messaging and strategies for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, and relevant stakeholder forums, advocating for the company's interests and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders
  • Develop and grow strong relationships with key stakeholders including other developers, utilities, and ISOs.
  • Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports for senior executives on stakeholder engagement activities, outcomes, and key issues.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging issues that may impact the company's development strategy, providing timely updates and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members while identifying reliability and congestion constraints for FERC jurisdictional projects and develop integrated/alternate solutions to expensive network upgrades.
  • Analyze interconnection due diligence materials to support project acquisition efforts.
  • Lead technical utility/RTO negotiations and consider implementation of GETs (Grid enhancing technologies), including but not limited to dynamic line ratings, non-wires alternatives etc.
  • Represent on WATT (Working for Advanced Transmission Technologies) coalition effort.
  • Manage external consultants in support of the interconnection process including but not limited to interconnection and transmission studies, curtailment and congestion analyses.

A successful candidate will possess the following competencies, skills, and attributes:

  • Strong networking capabilities with a proven track record of building relationships with utilities and RTOs
  • A fundamental understanding of the energy markets (LMPs, basis, congestion, curtailment, constraints, Day-Ahead/Real-Time, Energy, Capacity, RECs) and power flow system (contingency analysis, generation deliverability, balancing of load, generation, and inter/intra transactions)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and capture inaccuracies in generation interconnection reports
  • Experience in appropriate system modeling tools such as PSSE, PowerWorld, TARA, PROMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, etc.
  • Working knowledge of NERC Planning Standards and compliance
  • Detailed knowledge of ISO’s interconnection processes
  • Working experience with modeling and power system analyses
  • Skilled in production cost modeling and analyses
  • Working knowledge of reliability and economic planning principles
  • Established relationships with ISO/RTO stakeholders
  • Participation in ISO/RTO stakeholder working groups
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Exemplary standards of honor, ethics, quality, communication, and productivity

Location & Hours: This is a full-time hybrid position that will be based in our Washington, DC office. Remote opportunities offered to ideal candidates.
