The Corporate Tax team is essential to the success of UMB. This team works to increase shareholder value by minimizing the corporate tax burden and maintaining compliance with the tax laws. We are an “in-house” tax department that will utilize outside specialists when needed.  We love tax, love problem solving, and take the time to learn and educate others. 

Working in the Corporate Tax team at UMB can be fun and collaborative. We are a close-knit team of associates that work together and support one another. We take the time to educate ourselves on issues and stay up to date with tax law changes and their impact on UMB.  We produce quality workpapers, supporting memos and documentation for tax re‐ turns and positions. Our department meetings are collaborative and a place where we engage in tax discussions to learn from each other.  

As the Corporate Tax Manager, be responsible for managing UMB’s fixed asset and lease reporting, ensuring accurate recording, tracking, and depreciation of all fixed asset transactions.  You will play a crucial role in managing the integrity of our financial records and supporting UMB’s financial planning and decision-making processes.

This role is hybrid in our Corporate Headquarters located in downtown Kansas City, MO.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the management of fixed assets.
  • Oversee the recording and tracking of fixed asset acquisitions, disposals, transfers, and deprecation in accordance with GAAP and MACRS rules. 
  • Prepare and analyze fixed asset reports including depreciation schedules and capital expenditure forecasts. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and ensure accurate and timely recording and fixed asset transactions.
  • Stay updated with relevant accounting regulations and industry best practices.
  • Manage the annual ad valorem valuation process including maintaining the ad valorem tax accrual, ensuring timely payment of taxes and overseeing third-party providers.
  • Supervise and review federal and state income tax returns and quarterly estimated tax payments making efficient use of OneSource Income Tax software package.
  • Assist with federal and state/local income tax audits.
  • Perform thorough and accurate tax research relative to substantive federal, state and local tax issues on assigned projects.
  • Identify potential planning opportunities and/or advocacy positions.

We’re excited to talk with you if:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Taxation from an accredited college/university.
  • You have at least 6 years of federal corporate income tax experience with a Public Accounting Firm and/or in Private Industry.
  • You have a CPA designation.
  • You have strong knowledge of accounting principles, including GAAP.
  • You have the ability to monitor, analyze and interpret complex federal and state tax laws.
  • You are proficient in fixed asset management software and Microsoft Excel.
  • You have significant tax compliance and review experience of consolidated C Corporations.
  • You have experience with OneSource tax compliance software, (also called GoSystems or Fast Tax).

Bonus Points If:

  • You have experience within the financial services or banking industry.

Compensation Range:

Minimum: $83,200.00 - Maximum: $214,560.00
