About the role:

As the Strategy and Growth Director for Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division (EPD), you’ll have the opportunity to grow the electric power business through leadership, development and implementation of innovative commercial strategies and integrated customer offerings to create more valuable energy outcomes for customers. You'll provide strategic consulting and oversight to the execution of EPD’s strategy, driving decisions that result in long-term profitable growth, and provide leadership to the projects that will be most impactful to EPD’s long-term success.

This is a high-visibility position that requires a forward-thinking skill set and a passion for developing and applying our strengths in new ways and in new markets to meet the changing needs of the energy economy. The successful candidate will be a strong leader, have a demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence, and possess effective communications skills applicable internally or externally and at all levels of the organization. You must have a vision for the future, be customer oriented and be a champion of change.

This position is a leader role and reports to the Senior Vice President of the Electric Power Division. You will be responsible for championing strong internal coordination across the business including Marketing, Equipment and Services Sales, Product Development and Application Engineering, Business Management, Finance, Legal, and Compliance. You will have a strong external focus for development of market research and partnerships with technology providers, as well as identifying and analyzing potential inorganic growth opportunities in adjacent and transformational growth areas.

What You Will Do:

  • Evaluate market analyses and develop market opportunity valuations for assigned growth opportunities
  • Develop profit models for growth opportunity using Caterpillar standard decision-making models
  • Develop external contacts and relationships with market participants, potential customers, partners and suppliers
  • Develop and implement growth strategies including evaluation of potential partners, implementation of branding strategies, and execution of growth opportunities
  • Periodically share progress with senior management and Executive Leadership Team regarding program milestones, risk assessments and recommendations for revisions as required
  • Evaluate and develop adjacent and transformational new business areas; provide the link into the core business

  • Extensive Strategic Planning: Knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of overall business growth, providing the right level of detail as input, and linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.
  • Expert Communicator: Understands effective communication techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Communicates effectively with diverse audiences, using appropriate media and language.
  • Global Perspective: Knowledge of issues, opportunities, and challenges for conducting business in the international marketplace; ability to apply global perspectives appropriately in a wide range of situations.
  • Customer Focus: Provides customer-focused vision, strategy and leadership that exceeds customer expectations. Strong business acumen including demonstrated ability to drive customer outcomes through commercial leadership.
  • Influencing: Leads and presents collaborative assessments that persuasively influence decision makers. Advises and provides coaching to build rapport and commitment to common purpose.

  • This position will require up to 50% travel (domestic & international).
