What you will do


The primary role of the Design Team Manager is to oversee the design team for Johnson Controls Fire Protection projects. Acting as a design lead on large complex multi-faceted projects and directing other members of the design team supporting these projects 

How you will do it

  • Lead a team of 8 to 18 designers and CAD Drafters to provide fire alarm and other low voltage system drawings and submittal packages within estimated costs and time frames. Accomplish department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department workloads and activities.
  • Ensure a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
  • Develop personal growth opportunities.
  • Accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Coach, counsel, and discipline employees.
  • Develop, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Define objectives, identify and evaluate and options, choose a course of action, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Maintain quality work product by enforcing use of proprietary design tools and standards, meeting or exceeding local and national codes, analyzing and resolving quality and customer service problems, and implementing system improvements as needed.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • NICET Level 3 or 4 in Fire Alarm Systems
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or management a plus
  • 10 years’ experience in fire alarm market
  • 5 years’ experience managing people
