Job Description Summary

As a Steam Power Field Services & Technical Advising Specialist, you will travel to customers sites and support them with installation, maintenance, and warranty work with industrial power generation equipment. This position will require you to be trained and qualified as a Generator Specialist. As such, you will be authorized to perform both generator repair work and test and inspection assignments. The Generator Specialist will develop, though training and experience, a high level of expertise in the performance of generator inspection procedures, extensive knowledge of generator design and construction, and be capable of translating test results into terms of generator condition and recommended repairs.

Generator Specialist execute work under GE and customer safety and environmental policies, serving as an example for others and providing full commitment in the deployment of the EHS Policies and any additional project-specific written statement or procedure.

Your role:

  • Manage, perform, coordinate, and/or monitor Steam Power site activities
  • Perform on-site system and equipment installation, testing, preventive maintenance, repair and calibration, including both low voltage and high voltage (>600 volts) tasks. 
  • Respond to requests for emergency repairs and services to troublesome equipment
  • Provide technical instruction and assistance to customer representatives regarding installation, operation, calibration, repair and maintenance at customer's sites
  • Perform administrative functions such as: writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, reports to customers, time sheet and expense sheets on a complete timely, and thorough basis
  • Knowledge to troubleshoot and provide routine maintenance checkout for wide range of equipment vintage
  • Ensure all parts needed for the job are shipped to the site
  • Supervise critical tasks when these activities are performed by third parties   

Qualifications required:

  • Technical/University degree in an Engineering Discipline from an accredited university or college OR (High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a Field Services role, OR 6+ years of experience in a field services or power generation equipment maintenance position) 
  • Experience using electrical test equipment including Megohmmeters, Hipot test sets, Digital Low Resistance Ohmmeters, and Multimeters 

Desired qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a field engineer, winder, or comparable
  • Experience working on customer sites
  • Experience performing maintenance and testing on electrical generators 
  • Technically oriented, fast-learner, self-starter (need people who need little direction, willing to do self-study, self-directed)

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Strong technical skill in reading and interpreting electrical/mechanical flow and instrument diagrams
  • English proficiency required
  • Ability to travel to and from projects and various field assignments and willing to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as required

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $91,400.00 and $152,200.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

 

 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
