The Opportunity:

The Payroll Accountant will report to the Senior Manager, Financial Operations and would be the payroll subject matter expert for AgeCare.

The Payroll Accountant is responsible for supporting the broader payroll team to ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, analytical reporting and compliance for multiple union and non-union sites.

What You will do:

  • Payroll processing, reconciliation and journal entries for salaried, hourly and unionized payroll.
  • Ensure accuracy of payroll deductions including tax, garnishments, and benefit contributions
  • Prepare management reports that highlight key performance indicators of payroll timing and accuracy.
  • Year End T4 processing, review and reconciliation.
  • May be required to assist with reconciliation of pension, RRSP, and group benefit plans.
  • Preparation of payroll reports in support of internal and external reporting requirements

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma from a post-secondary institution in accounting or equivalent

  • CPA designation would be an asset.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or Canadian Payroll Manager (CPM) certification or equivalent experience will be considered an asset.
  • 5+ years of hands-on full cycle multi-site or Canadian multi-jurisdictional payroll processing and reconciliation experience.
  • Broad payroll experience for a large, multi-union complex organization preferred.
  • Experience with Workday, Kronos, or other computerized payroll, HCM, or scheduling systems.
  • Strong understanding of Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario Employment Standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel including pivot table.
  • Strong focus on attention to detail and desire for accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with focus on finding solutions and working through to appropriate resolution.
