Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) Dining is actively seeking a Residential Dining Manager. Be a part of the group that delivers exceptional hospitality by supporting local farms through seasonally-inspired menus, and utilizing the strengths of its staff to provide the absolute best in culinary artistry to the greater community.
The Residential Dining Manager fosters lasting dining relationships by engaging with first and second-year students, creating thoughtful and meaningful dining programming. Directly oversees the college's largest all-you-can-eat dining venue, serving over a million meals annually.
While RISD Dining welcomes all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for this role, we are especially interested in candidates who have advanced culinary education, as well as prior experience managing and working in a commissary production kitchen and/or catering environment. Managers are responsible for overseeing daily operational performance, including staffing levels, ensuring consistent administration of operational policies, and managing the full hiring and performance management process for a team of supervisors and nonexempt-level staff. Participate in the planning and development of student dining objectives and action planning to ensure that the program is flexible and reflects campus priorities
Essential Functions/Duties:
In support of the Dining and Catering mission and values, the incumbent may be called upon to perform any one or a combination of the following functions listed below:
Develop goals that reflect aspirations associated with an excellent first and second-year student experience, inspiring and motivating everyone to work towards a common purpose.
Delegate performance management, ensuring it is tiered to align with the responsibilities and roles of various team members.
Participate in diversity and inclusion training to evolve professionally and positively influence workplace culture.
Support multi-year financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial statement analysis, including monitoring key financial attributes such as budget adherence and cost analysis to make programmatic recommendations based on current and future food trends.
Utilizes promotions in the AYCE (All You Care to Eat) venue to raise awareness and educate students on various topics such as sustainability, cultural traditions, and campus events.
Generate and analyze system reports to track outcomes, propose, and implement opportunities to enhance operational processes within systems, ensuring efficiency.
Engage with staff and students to foster a collaborative environment for generating fresh ideas and introducing new initiatives that respond to the needs of both students and the institution. Actively engage first- and second-year students, ensuring that Met's offerings are at the forefront of industry trends.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
Associate’s Degree in Hospitality Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of five(5) years’ food service industry experience, with a preference for college/university segments and/or restaurants, and a minimum of two years of management leadership experience, with proven success in leading teams.
ServSafe certified or willing to obtain certification within 90 days.
Strong knowledge of computers and experience with Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Able to learn to utilize CBORD access software, as well as departmental communications platforms such as email and Slack.
Proven interpersonal and excellent leadership skills, including the ability to visualize and communicate desired outcomes to a diverse group of people in a team-based environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, peers, and supervisors and professionally communicate with multiple levels of employees within the College.
Valid driver’s license (preferred)
Additional Functions:
Provide support to vending and retail operations when needed.
Serve as a key member of the Dining management team.
Performs other related duties as requested.
