This position is responsible for organizing and supervising the entire training program of the University's Transit Services, including the orientation of new hires, commercial license training, and training on the Access Van, Campus Connector, and Transit routes. Responsible for acting as the liaison between NHDOS and Transportation Services to ensure UNH is compliant with all NH and federal DOT licensing requirements. This position is required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
Job Duties:
Oversee the entire UTS training program, including supervision of the full-time Driver Trainer and adjunct and student trainers.
Coordinate staff schedules and training assignments.
Coordinate and administer all aspects of the training program for Transportation Services, including establishing training protocols and enforcing policies, regulations, and procedures for new hires working toward a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements.
Develop, write, and update training manuals, presentations, and instructional materials.
Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating adjunct and student trainers from the existing driver pool.
Train, supervise, evaluate, and schedule staff as assigned; coordinate training services for new employees.
Lead training efforts for approximately 70 new driver candidates annually on operating 25’–40’ transit buses and successfully passing CDL written, skills, and road tests.
Deliver New Employee Orientation and training related to Campus Connector, Access Van Program, Medi-Cat, and all transit routes.
Ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
Evaluate driver applicants’ skills during the hiring process in accordance with DOT regulations.
Instruct and evaluate drivers to ensure adherence to all university, state, and federal rules, regulations, and procedures; ensure driver safety and performance standards are met.
Maintain all training records and ensure timely and accurate completion of required documentation.
Match trainers with trainees, coordinate onboarding schedules, and ensure consistent follow-up throughout the training process.
Serve as liaison with the New Hampshire Department of Safety (NHDOS) and NHDOT for CDL testing requirements and updates to licensing programs, ensuring ongoing compliance.
Provide first response in resolving issues related to Federal Motor Carrier pre-trip inspections and respond to emergency situations as needed.
Oversee the Passenger Transit Agency Safety Program (PTASP), including annual updates, and lead the Wildcat Transit Safety Committee to ensure compliance with all FTA requirements.
Oversee and manage the university’s Defensive Driving Course, including program updates, scheduling, and fulfillment of requests.
Support recruiting and assist with hiring processes, including interviews, pre-employment driving tests, and other hiring-related duties as assigned.
Responsible for the hiring, training, and supervision of bus washers.
Coordinate with the Operations Manager to ensure adequate supplies, maintain cleanliness of the bus washing area, and ensure organization of storage spaces and closets.
Oversee collection of cash fares on buses in accordance with USNH policy and coordinate bank deposits.
Coordinate with the Operations Manager on daily transit operational needs, including driving, dispatching, and special projects as required.
Oversee maintenance of all bus stops, including installation and removal of signage and follow-up on related work.
Ensure fire extinguisher inspections are conducted and properly documented.
Assist with route planning, service changes, and schedule adjustments.
Maintain operational and training-related data, including travel logs, passenger counts, and mileage records.
Ensure driver performance reviews are completed, clearly documented, and communicated.
Operate motor vehicles and perform dispatch duties as needed.
Work closely with the Operations Manager on hiring and staffing needs.
Provide support for departmental manuals, written materials, and compliance documentation.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduation with five years of transportation experience as a trainer, driver or dispatcher.
Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing the operation of motor vehicles, particularly buses carrying 40-60 passengers.
Possession of valid Commercial Driver’s License, minimum of class B with air brake and passenger endorsements.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of this position.
Must pass drug and alcohol screening tests and DOT physical.
Must maintain a valid DOT medical card as mandated by Department of Transportation agency regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan and organize.
Familiarity with adult learning theory.
Familiarity with variety of audio-visual aids.
Willingness to travel to other campuses.
Computer experience with the following programs: Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint

Compensation Pay Range:
