As an attorney on AB’s Labor and Employment Legal Team, you are solutions-oriented and will provide labor and employment support to our firm’s Human Capital team and Strategic Business Units. Your exceptional interpersonal and innovative problem-solving skills make you a valued partner with the Legal and Human Capital teams. You thrive when you showcase your organizational and time management skills as you manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously. Your verbal and written skills are extraordinary and are what make you successful in providing persuasive and valued counsel because you balance the practicality of a solution with legal risk mitigation that is needed to protect the firm. Whether you are an individual contributor or part of a team, you are always collegial. You have an unquestionable sense of integrity, ethics and discretion as you work through some of the most sensitive and important topics for the firm. Your attention to detail is crucial as you review and prepare employment agreements, performance documentation and separation documents. Your intellectual curiosity is prominent as you keep apprised of and ensure compliance with new federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

Areas of your subject matter expertise should include a broad range of employment matters on day-to-day employee issues relating to: recruiting; hiring; performance management; compensation; wage and overtime standards; leaves of absence; return to work and accommodation issues; benefits; terminations; confidentiality and non-competition agreements; privacy rights; Title VII compliance; immigration, and ERISA retirement plans.

What you'll do:

The Legal and Compliance Department is responsible for protecting the firm from regulatory and reputational risk across the globe and strengthening the firm’s culture of compliance. We do this through collaborative partnership with the business units we support by providing thoughtful and timely advice. In addition, the department conducts global monitoring and training activities that prevent, detect and mitigate regulatory and reputational risk. The advice coupled with the monitoring and training activities provide the framework to support the firm’s business strategy and objectives while maintaining a high standard for integrity.

Who we're looking for:

  • Juris Doctorate degree with 7+ years in employment-related practice with direct counseling experience to business executives in the financial services industry.

  • State of Tennessee bar admission (active and in good standing) or admission to another State’s bar with the ability to obtain In-House designation in Tennessee.

  • Significant subject matter experience in risk mitigation related to employee-life cycle events such as: hiring, employee relations, performance management, termination, and workforce reductions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-house legal department experience

  • Financial services experience

  • Privacy experience a plus
