Group Regulatory Affairs & Compliance

The Group Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Department of Rothschild & Co, which comprises teams located in Paris and London, (i) oversees the monitoring of regulatory change across the Group, (ii) coordinates regulatory authorizations and interactions with regulators for the Group, (iii) provides regulatory advice on cross divisional matters and (iv) leads on the enhancement, roll-out and oversight of group compliance frameworks (except Group Financial Crime frameworks).  

Legal Counsel responsibilities

Regulatory

  • Regulatory change monitoring of UK and EU regulations. This will include, but is not limited to, developments relating to corporate governance, sustainable finance, ESG, market abuse, AML/CTF, ABC, conduct rules and SMCR as well as market practices, in order to identify the potential impacts of proposed and actual regulatory changes for the Group. This work also involves coordinating compliance actions within the Group in conjunction with the Legal & Compliance, Risk, Digital, ESG, and Finance Departments.
  • Coordinating regulatory authorization files in the UK in connection with internal reorganization or external growth operations initiated by the Group (acquisitions of qualifying holdings, license approvals, etc.).
  • Advising relevant business lines or support functions on UK / EU regulatory matters.
  • Involvement, as needed, in consultations or working groups initiated by professional market associations or supervisory authorities.

Compliance

  • Involvement in, and providing legal support to, Group projects aimed at setting up or redesigning Group compliance frameworks.
  • Coordinating cross-divisional projects affecting the Group's various business lines.
  • Overseeing Group frameworks under the remit of the Group Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Department.

Experience, qualifications, skills and Competencies required

Experience

  • At least 3 years post-qualification experience gained in a law firm (within a regulatory / financial services practice), and/or in a Legal & Compliance department of a financial services institution and/or in a supervisory authority

Qualifications

  • Admitted to the Law Society of England and Wales and holding a current practicing certificated from the Solicitors Regulatory Authority.
  • Has completed / passed all Law Society / Solicitors Regulatory Authority post-qualification mandatory training.

  • Good knowledge of UK and EU banking and financial services regulatory landscape
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Methodical, structured and rigorous approach to delivery of work in a timely manner
  • Good judgement, capable of problem-solving and acting independently
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and develop
  • Ability to foster strong working relationships within the team and with the wider businesses
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken (French language skills would be an advantage but are not a requirement)
  • Experienced in using Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams programs
  • Used to working on highly confidential matters and maintaining strict confidentiality
  • Personal integrity
